Summary

The website content exposes the manipulative strategies of big oil and gas companies, and their exploitation of public relations (PR) to distort climate change facts, block action, and influence public opinion and elections for their benefit, often at the expense of democracy and the planet's future.

Abstract

The article titled "IT'S ALL CONNECTED TO YOU" on the website highlights the alarming role of big oil and gas corporations in spreading misinformation about climate change. It argues that despite data indicating the severity of climate change, these companies use their wealth to fund sophisticated PR campaigns aimed at casting doubt on scientific consensus. The piece underscores the urgency of combating the climate crisis but points out that the average person's short attention span hinders sustained action. It also commemorates the late Ross Gelbspan, who uncovered the fossil fuel industry's efforts to mislead the public. The article further details how PR firms help these companies improve their environmental image while undermining climate action, often employing a pattern of investing in reputation change, ignoring or exacerbating environmental issues, and covering up their involvement. The narrative extends to the political sphere, where the oil and gas industry's influence, particularly through media outlets like Fox News, shapes public opinion and political decisions, potentially affecting the outcomes of elections, including the 2024 global votes. The article concludes by urging readers to take action to preserve democracy and address the climate crisis.

Opinions

  • The climate crisis is an urgent and existential threat to humanity, yet it is not being treated as a priority due to misinformation and short attention spans.
  • Big oil and gas companies are aware of the environmental damage they cause but choose to invest in PR campaigns to improve their image and block climate action rather than address the core issues.
  • PR firms play a crucial role in manipulating public perception, enabling these companies to maintain their profits and political influence while avoiding accountability.
  • The political manipulation extends to the highest levels, with evidence suggesting that Russia has been working to install Trump as a Russian asset to destabilize democracy.
  • The article suggests that the public is being duped into internal conflict rather than focusing on holding accountable those responsible for environmental and democratic crises.
  • The call to action encourages readers to engage with democracy by sharing information, supporting independent journalism, and subscribing to the author's medium page for further insights.

How Big Oil Exploits the 3-Second Rule of Customer Attention

UX Designers are painstakingly aware you have 3 seconds to catch your customer's attention, or they're scrolling on to something more riveting

“We are the first generation to feel the impact of climate change and the last generation that can do something about it.” Barack Obama

The climate crisis is not just an urgent issue but a peril of existential proportions. It poses an imminent threat to our very existence, leaving no room for complacency. Without swift and decisive action, our future hangs in the balance, and the consequences are nothing short of catastrophic.

Then, Why Isn't Saving the Planet Our Main Priority?

DOOM-scrolling -addicted people have the attention spans of goldfish on meth. Saving the planet sounds good, but…

SQUIRREL!

We can't get enough information, but we don't have the sense God gave a goat to retain what we've just read because we're overwhelmed with information we scrolled through three seconds before — and have already forgotten.

Ross Gelbspan died at 84

I hope somewhere in Gelspan's obit are the words — "I tried to warn you!"

“The Heat Is On,” which he expanded into a 1997 book with the same title, Mr. Gelbspan shined a light on a group of scientists that coal and oil groups had paid to tell lawmakers and journalists that global warming wasn’t a serious threat. He dug up a 1991 memo from the fossil fuel lobby calling for a strategy to “reposition global warming as theory rather than fact.”

“All good decisions are data dependent.”

— Hendrith Vanlon Smith Jr

All bad decisions are also data-dependent — avoiding consequences, regulations, and taxes while making as much money as humanly possible is the goal of most corporations.

What Causes People to Vote Against Their Own Interests?

Good PR can shape reality, create an entire race, and even turn back time. Public relations and advertising funded by gas and oil revenues are among the world's most powerful, delusional, and invisible forces.

Reality isn’t real to them; gravity is optional, and climate crisis means someone needs to turn up the a/c. These people are blinded by money and power and are not "acting in good faith."

Hollow Promises are Easy to Forget Lies

A peer-reviewed study published late last year in the journal Climatic Change was the first to comprehensively document PR firms' role in helping the world's most profitable oil and gas companies improve their environmental image and block climate action with calculated, expensive public relations manipulation.

It's a three-part pattern we can learn from:

  • As big oil and gas companies were made aware of the damage they were causing, they spent money ($$$) to improve their reputation.
  • While blocking climate action
  • A PR company changed the story, the narrative, and the focus — they even have us questioning the safety of solar.

There's a clear pattern here.

  • Critical Problem Identified
  • Response — Invest in image change
  • Ignore or worsen the issue
  • Cover it up, prioritizing reputation over accountability.

This cycle perpetuates injustice, undermines corporate responsibility, and is cheaper than paying taxes.

Corporations change narratives, brands, and stories until they overwhelm us, and we forget who is initially responsible.

This pattern repeats across our government and commercial sector as we inch closer to WWIII.

The Republicans lack accountability, transparency, and education; they are using the power of PR firms and the biggest megaphone on the planet (Fox News) to control the narrative worldwide at the behest of the oil and gas industries.

Corruption in the corporate sector is a significant danger to the planet's future. To hold those accountable, we must address the influence of public relations firms and the media. This is crucial as the gas and oil industry funds these corrupt practices to evade taxes and regulations, undermining the well-being of our planet.

Texas, Florida, and Joe Manchin are great examples of states and people dependent on the utility sector and controlled by PR firms in Russia.

Simply terrifying.

Manipulating The Story for the Benefit of the Ultra Wealthy

The Saudi government "gifted" 2 billion dollars from the oil industry funded by Jared Kushner and is funding Donald Trump. Kushner uses that money to influence and peddle a narrative that is the opposite of reality.

The gas and oil industry (with Putin as its primary beneficiary) doesn't want fair elections, kills anyone who opposes them, controls the narrative with an iron fist, and, thanks to his direct connection to Murdoch — is controlling the narrative in the United States.

The enemy of Democracy didn't pay this much money and invest this kind of time to puss out now. Putin's future has been tied to his success in fooling us with Trump.

Putin is coming for our Democracy, and He's Using PR as a Cover

Misinformation is nothing short of dissolving our Constitution to be entertained by the enemy of Democracy.
