Dark Waters Lure- Secrets Obscure
The ocean has needs
Poetry Prompt — The Sea
“Don’t swim too far out into the unknown.” Vision obscured by dark water Seaweed teasing my bare skin Swaying playfully again and again.
What more can’t I see as the waves roll in? Deadly sea monsters lurking, waiting Keeping rhythm with the ocean’s dance Ready to strike when given the chance?
Splashing, missing the crest this time The next one rolls in, this one is mine! Prostrate, I lay laughing, arms open wide Weightless, oblivious in a timeless shifting tide.
The whistle blows, the old ones return Tempting fate rarely plays in your favor. What are the odds there’s really such threat? This roll of the dice will be your last bet.
“Come back, the undertow is strong.” The Gulf’s trap door opens wide Unsuspecting swimmer carried far from shore Panic, fatigue, screams heard no more.
Take caution and notice the gathering clouds Keep watch when the waters seem calm The ocean has secrets, a need to be fed Heed the warning when the flags turn to red.
