Daily Intentions: What is the Point of this Day in Your Life?

Bullshit-free mindfulness: an uncommon guide for joy in everyday life

An intentional life is a purposeful, conscious life.

We have to do this; we must remember that. The demands we put on ourselves, and that we take in from others, can easily drive us to neglect our own priorities. On top of that, there are so many shiny objects out there! There are fun gatherings, great books, foods we’ve never heard of before — you name it. It’s fun, fun, fun but also distraction, distraction, distraction.

What is it that matters? What is it that you want to focus on right now?

Mindfulness can help us with that by encouraging us to not run away from discomfort. Mindfulness is an invitation to stay here, now, and feel it all. Here is a mindfulness practice that supports you in expanding your joy in everyday life.

This is one of the 50 weekly mindfulness practices that I share in my book, “Bullshit-free Mindfulness”. Get your copy here — it is available in print and ebook formats. Hope you enjoy it!

This week, be as intentional with what you want to experience as you can. Every morning, ask yourself:

What is my intention for today?

Then answer this question with a word that embodies what you want to experience on that day. For instance: joy, playfulness, discipline, or presence.

What is the energy that you are inviting into your day?

What is it that you want in your life?

Come back to that word you said as an intention throughout the day so that you keep working on it. Be sure that mundane events do not shake you out of your intention. It is your job, and yours only, to hold your intention and experience what you want to experience.

At the end of the day, come back to your intention of the day, do a short check-in with yourself, and acknowledge how it went.

Celebrate your wins. That’s it!
