Creating a Routine Was One of the BEST Things to Ever Happen To Me.

What does your present routine look like?

Let me tell you what my previous routine consisted of,

I woke up and watched Youtube for about three hours. At which point, I’m hungry, but too lazy to stand up and do something about it, and eventually I end up eating breakfast at 4pm. Let’s not even talk about my sleep schedule at the time. It would have best been described as a state of absolute shambles.

I kept existing like this on autopilot, and it was causing me a lot more unneccessary anxiety than required, even though I didn’t notice it at the time. I was letting life pass me by. More on that here.

Eventually, I started to notice that I didn’t like my routine. I only happened to be used to it.

“Something needs to change”

What changed you ask?

Well, for starters, I created a routine.

Wait, don’t run away yet. I know people tend to have a negative perception whenever a routine is mentioned. But, that’s only because people view it wrong. Myself included. I heard about creating a routine, and these were my thoughts:

“Oh, I’ve got to subject myself to this list I created, EVERY SINGLE DAY! NAH, MAN, I CAN’T DO THIS. BLOODY HELL.”

If you’re anything like me, you may have those fears. Then again, that’s because we view it wrong.

The routine isn’t this tyrannical master that beats you up for not completing everything on a list. The routine is a friend that’s meant to assist you in having the best day possible.

Think of it like this,

If you could have the best week ever, what would your days look like?

What would you need to do tomorrow to ensure it is at least 1% better than today?

That is what the routine is for, it’s not the boss you hate, it’s your best friend letting you know the requirements — by your own standards — for a productive day, week, or year.

If you’re also anything like me, then you want to do everything at once.

“I need to fix x, I need to fix y. I should be reading 3 hours a day by now, I have to write 6 hours a day, I need to go to the gym every day.”

There’s no problem with having those goals, but please, just take it easy. Just one day at a time. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. You’re not magically going to fix up your life in one day, it’s a gradual process and a great adventure worth exploring.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Just create a routine, it doesn’t need to be anything fancy, just enough to ensure you have a better tomorrow. Try it, and I guarantee you will be thanking me after.
