Summary

The poem "Cosmic Ends to Limerence" explores the all-consuming nature of limerence against the backdrop of the universe's inevitable demise.

Abstract

"Cosmic Ends to Limerence" delves into the intense and often obsessive emotional state known as limerence, characterized by an overwhelming infatuation and longing for another person. The poem paints a vivid picture of the dreamlike and sometimes delusional experience of limerence, where the poet imagines countless encounters and connections with the object of their affection. This emotional journey is juxtaposed with the cosmic theme of the universe's eventual end, suggesting that even the most profound human experiences are dwarfed by the vastness of time and space. The poem reflects on the paradox of seeking permanence in human connections, despite the transient nature of existence, and the struggle to reconcile personal desires with the indifferent forces of the cosmos.

Opinions

  • The author views limerence as an intense emotional state that can consume one's entire being, leading to a life lived in fantasies and what-ifs.
  • There is a sense of futility in the poet's yearning, as they acknowledge the universe's ultimate fate, which diminishes personal experiences.
  • The poem suggests that the heart's desires and the mind's reasonings are often at odds, with emotions taking precedence over logic.
  • The author seems to recognize the ephemeral nature of human connections and the pain that comes from the realization that these may be fleeting against the canvas of the cosmos.
  • Despite the recognition of the universe's indifference, there is a persistent human need to seek meaning and attachment, as evidenced by the poet's deep longing and the creation of the poem itself.

Cosmic Ends to Limerence

The interminable experience of limerence, but the universe will end one way or another…

Living in limerence in bubbles of dreams I scheme sketching, perfecting all the ways we shall meet a thousand lifetimes lived a thousand lip-tips kissed a thousand shattered slivers of souls you’ll never miss stretching joys to stratospheres in crushing sweet defeats bringing trinkets, bobbles, toys bowing, kowtowing on the brink, to break innocence tearing across beyond universal edges crying, dying silently slipping away in heat death

Days give way to weeks, months, years to reveries played un-dissuaded by logic or reason on endless repeat hearing, revering pictures of you to the beats of heart-racings each act fine theatrics with staging construed the troupers all trained to stay on the page reading too deeply between their lines only tributes to you as we commence to end this beginning

Living in limerence I cease to exist outside the abyss of this mania I make a millionth of a wavelength a million fluttered moths a million rolling bearings upon this heart to cross constructing, redacting all wisdom and rhyme anxieties piquing marking my time second hands ticking tocking along a metronome pushing the pulse of my song clashing, contracting to a flaring white dot

Flaying this skin for a chance for a part could I possibly win at a quarrelsome art in spaces temporal liminal, literary too searching, besmirching a name in the dirt forgetting where I am in the twitter of a flirt pondering possibilities searching for loose ends to rescind the fantasies that fly us to the moon before the bubble bursts its expansion lightening quick blink away equilibrium stays new order constructed in vacuum decay
