Copycats Debunked: 5 Miserable Reasons Why People Just Can’t Stop Copying You

How to handle someone who is imitating you.

Photo by Maxim Tolchinskiy on Unsplash

Throughout my life, I have managed to receive a lot of praise, admiration and recognition from influential people and I am very proud of that. I have worked hard to achieve that and I am not done, I am just at the beginning of my bright future.

With recognition come haters and copycats.

Who is a copycat?

Someone who tries to copy another’s behaviour, who has no ideas of their own. Someone who is just truly miserable or perhaps just lost and confused in this big world. These people often try to devalue your achievements and put you down.

Why?

Because they are very unhappy with themselves.

These people share another miserable trait — they are boring.

Years ago I swore myself one thing — never to be boring. Life is too short to be boring. Boring doesn’t sell books nor create readable material.

Boring isn’t remembered.

Therefore, copycats lack originality, and when someone like you or me passes them by, they do all they can to “steal” someone else’s ideas and present them as they own. But little do they know, that people can see through that.

Sorry, Miss/Mr but you are pathetic.Next time, try to use your own brain and come up with something, rather then stealing my ideas. Hovewer hard you try, you will be still miles behind. Keep on trying to keep up. Meow!

So, upon my research, I have found why people can’t stop copying others and how to handle these poor individuals. Here are the main 5 reasons why people just can’t stop trying to be like you.

1. They have no identity of their own, so they try to steal yours.

Someone who is confident and strong as an individual wishes to set himself apart from the crowd and doesn't have the urge to copy others. Being inspired by others is different. I am talking about people who copy everything down to the detail, like idiots.

Copycats are very insecure souls. They imitate your talk, what you do, copy your plans, activities and efforts in order to feel better about themselves. They may try to keep this fake mask for some time, but eventually, they give up because it is too much of an effort for them to try and be like you.

It’s impossible.

They don’t even know why the hell they are copying you. It is most likely that they don’t like you or the things they copy from you, but they just can’t help it.

They live in fear. They’re afraid of being deserted by their close ones if they have any. They’re afraid that people will learn that they’re insecure. They’re afraid that you’ll find out all of the above.

2. They are jealous of you and they wish to be like you.

There were a lot of jealous people around me, they envied my life and my success and they have tried to do everything they can (which is not a lot) to achieve some semblance of what I have. With no luck obviously.

They can’t copy your achievements by doing exactly what you do. Your story is different to theirs and copying will harm them. But they don’t know that, yet.

Also, they just feel plain threatened.

Let’s say an insecure, lonely and sad little girl named Kitty would like to be loved and be the centre of attention at a party, but another lady comes who draws people’s attention way more than Kitty. Kitty feels as if that person is taking people’s attention away from her.

In her mind, Kitty’s sense of worth is getting threatened by this newcomer. So poor Kitty can’t stop it, she is overwhelmed with jealousy and anger, so she makes it her goal to eliminate this newcomer. And when that doesn’t work out, then all there is left, is to try and copy this amazing newcomer.

That must have been a bad party for Kitty-cat.

3. Copycats have the lowest self-esteem and are lazy.

As mentioned before copycats are very insecure. They often suffer from severe anxiety, depression and negative thinking. They think so little of themselves, but they do nothing to better themselves. Rather they find a victim to focus on and start imitating the other person’s behaviour.

It may seem flattering that someone is copying your behaviour, but honestly, it’s just plain disturbing.

I have realized that apart from having insecurity issues, these people are very lazy. They never try to secure their own resources or use creativity, instead, they give in to their laziness and come up with countless excuses to copying others.

Rather than getting inspired by other successful people or learning from others, copycats are jealous and envious. They will typically wonder, “Why not me?” when they see someone reach heights.

“Why not you? Because while you were eating chips and watching YouTube others of us were working hard. That’s why the success didn’t come to you.”

4. They may be “obsessed” with you, that’s why they copy.

Sometimes people which are obsessed with you, copy you. Copycats actually adore you. Think about it, these people “copy” you and want to learn every single thing about you. They will desperately scramble for an angle through whatever means to find out where you live, what you do, what you say or write.

No one exhausts that much energy if they really don’t like you. In fact, a person who genuinely doesn’t like you knows nothing about you and frankly doesn’t care. They are plainly obsessed because they would like to be you.

If you have reason to believe that someone is unhealthily and dangerously obsessed with you report them as soon as possible.

5. They may be seriously unwell

I’ve noticed that copycats tend to suffer from various serious mental health issues. These people are unable to make positive connections with other people, they are stuck in a toxic pool of anger, jealousy, greed and even paranoia.

They lack humility, love and they are obsessed with people who are happier, better and more loved than they are. These miserable copycats have a burning desire to destroy everyone around them.

They just can’t experience the joy of simple good-natured human interaction because they have never put in the work required to mature and become fully human. All they have done is make shoddy forgeries, cheat, take shortcuts, which fits them only for a life of fraud.

They are like a lazy tramp at the window of an expensive restaurant, looking enviously at delicious food she will never taste. The same tramp that decides because she won’t be given food of her choice for free, she will burn down the building instead.

Realising they are unable to capture your amazing qualities they decide the second best thing is to destroy these qualities by attempting to destroy you. If they can’t have them, nobody will! Crazy right?

Their life is an endless series of failed criminal attempts to keep up with you and they are stuck in destructive fury at their inability to do so.

Stay away from them and live your amazing life free of these crazy tramps!

Putting This Cat To Sleep

So what can you do to protect yourself from copycats? I have learned few simple tricks that help me stay on track and avoid falling into the trap of copycats negativity, here they are:

Ignore them.

Look I know all my copycats by their names. But I never call them out because they are just attention whores.

They don’t deserve my attention. Instead, I treat them with silence. In that silence they will rot, their anger will devour them, and so will hopelessness. And we will forget them…

In silence, they will be destroyed.

Silence is the best way to beat a copycat. Focus on your future, not on cold retribution. In the future that builds your capacity for love and creativity, for actual intelligence.

Keep being you.

Choosing whether you should stand up to copycats comes down to what you can or cannot live with.

Don’t allow copycats to bring you down. Keep being you and keep being successful. Don’t allow someone else’s own failures to bring you down or prevent you from pursuing your dreams.

Keep being you, the loving and amazing you. Share words of kindness. Because spreading love is the best way to beat a hater. Remember — they are jealous because they think you are better than them.

And guess what? You are better and so am I.

Free yourself.

If you have copycats — that means that you are free. Free from fear of being controlled, manipulated and you have an independent mind.

That is something a copycat can’t grasp. They would like to control things and other people. But you don’t care. You can see through the game.

You’re not playing by the rules. You are setting the rules. You’re not playing to the crowd. You are speaking to them. You’re not open to manipulation. You are free.

In short, copycats can hate you because you are not susceptible to pathetic hatred anymore. You have better things to do.

For example, use them as an inspiration for your next bestseller novel while booking that trip to Montenegro that you’ve always dreamed about.
