How To Increase Your Followers?

(I’ll provide some of the best methods to boost your followers on Medium)

First of all, I would like to extend my appreciation to all my followers. I have 290 followers at this moment. And every follower of mine is but a companion in my writing journey. I am sceptical if I am worthy to write about this. But for the sake of those who have fewer followers than mine, I think this could be of little help. Let’s begin, shall we?

When anyone begins their journey on Medium, it’s really hard to gain followers. Not if you focus on some trends like follow-for-follow. But if you are like me and want to get organic followers, you are in the right spot.

Starting a writing career on Medium is time-testing. As in the beginning, nobody seems interested in reading your article. You write and hit the publish button. You waited for hours, days, and weeks but nobody hit the clap button or commented or appreciate your hard work. The same happened to me. You are not alone.

Before we begin, let me share my follower’s stats. I got about 84 new followers on Medium in February. It took me over 1 year to get 290 followers. I have 7 email subscribers as of now out of which I added 4 new ones in February. Here is my follower stat for 2023 —

What Exactly Does It Takes To Grow?

I’ll discuss them one by one under the subtopic. It will help you. Keep reading.

1. Join Medium Community on Facebook

I think that is what every new writer should do. They should try to find a community. Facebook is such a very good community where you will find tens of thousands of Medium writers. The Medium community on Facebook comes in the form of a Facebook group for Medium writers.

One thing I admire about Medium is, it has a very decent and supportive community. You can always ask for help. Sounds good?

I’ll provide a list of some of the best Facebook groups for Medium writers. The important thing is you should follow the give-and-take principles. Support them and they will support you back.

2. Write Constantly

The quantity has some quality in itself.

Write consistently. It can be a thirty-day challenge or a week challenge. But carry on writing consistently. What happens when you write constantly? Your writing career gets better. Additionally, with more articles, more is a chance of people reading them.

How to begin? Simply write anything. It might be a daily life schedule or your life experiences or a story or an essay. The real deal is just writing and publishing them. No ideas what to write? Just read others blog and get more ideas. Because —

Good readers are good writers and good writers are good readers.

3. Genuinely Engage With Other Writers

I often do this. Whenever I read I thoroughly engage with others' articles. Because it helps in fetching more ideas, and writing techniques and strengthens my vocabulary.

Apart from this whenever you genuinely engaged with others' posts they will likely check you back. The better strategy is to clap and comment on others' articles. Giving replies to others' articles will increase your transparency not only to the original author but those reading his articles. Cool?

You can simply start with my article. Just write a reply to this article and I will check your profile.

4. Write on trending topics

One of the best strategies to get more followers is to write on hot topics. For example, during the World Cup, you can write content related to it. Interested people will either subscribe or follow for more.

5. Find a niche

Another strategy is you find a niche for your writing. Don’t focus on too many niches. Find where you are good at. As for mine, I have four or five niches. I write about Programming, Android App Development, Technology, Science, Health, Relationships, Lifestyle, and Personal Development. Still, I have a problem. I can’t write articles constantly for all of them. That’s too many niches for a writer like me who publish 3–4 articles a week.

Conclusion

There’s no easy way to quickly gain followers on Medium organically. An alternative way is follow-for-follow. But it’s not worth it, is it? Writing on Medium needs patience, consistency, and determination. Did I miss something? Yes, hard work.

Good luck. All the best for your writing career on Medium. I am no better than you.
