Conscience

What happens when it is trained or ignored

A trained conscience based on principles of humanity can be an accurate guide to what is right and wrong. Accepted standards of any basic society do not condone murder, stealing, and child abuse to name a few. Interestingly, primitive tribes still in existence on earth today have laws within their culture forbidding such practices.

This innate conscience has been placed within man by an Almighty Creator, even so-called primitive cultures. How else could this be explained?

The question then arises, why are wicked acts committed by humans? When the compass, or conscience, loses its directional point…then poor decisions are made. Without a compass, or conscience, anything goes.

Human beings are not robots or pre-programmed. As such, you have free will to exercise your God-given conscience or not? However, faulty reasoning and thinking can cause your compass to go off track.

Many living things in nature follow set rules within their culture. The whales have strong family ties as well as my favorite animal the elephant. Protecting the young, loyalty, and commitment are strong attributes within a pod of whales or a family of elephants. They too have built-in compasses.

When the conscience is fully ignored

The flip side of all of this reasoning is that when the conscience is fully ignored, without any acceptance or recognition of principles and standards, atrocities occur.

When Nazi soldiers, many that were raised with admirable standards, totally ignored their God-given conscience they ended up killing thousands and thousands of innocent people. The Nuremberg trials convicted such individuals for “crimes against humanity.” Time and time again through history this type of mentality and cruelty has scorched mankind.

Build spirituality and shape your conscience

The further and further away people get from spirituality, the further away they get from developing a working conscience with fewer defects.

Let’s all keep our compass well oiled and in good shape for the challenges just ahead.
