Confession: I Make My Bed Every Morning to Feel Better About Myself
There are a few reasons why I make my bed in the morning.
Vanity
I like to think it’s aesthetically pleasing and mimics a life of proficiency and adulthood.
Sanctuary
When the bed is made, it’s fully inviting. I want to lay there all day in peace. I look forward to bedtime.
The ripple effect
I accomplished a minute task. Now I can make coffee, write, empty the dishwasher, and put on a load of laundry. Sounds like a mildly productive day all before 10 a.m.
Competition
My partner goes to the gym every morning at 6 a.m. There’s no way I could ever do that- I don’t want to. But I made the bed, so he can’t say anything about me being lazy.
Try making your bed in the morning, even out of spite. Its impact might surprise you.
