How did I do?

I had estimated my cost at $272…

I calculated the totla monthly to be $144

Data transfer and storage was a guestimate ~

So the total monthly estimate was 272.90.

Well after running the service for about a month here was my cost. I’m missing 5 days in March but my total was $154.70.

I’m not sure how the much the 5 missing days affects this cost. Perhaps if it is the cost would come out to about $184.45. However, AWS forecasts my upcoming monthly costs to be similar. Of course if you aggregate the logs over time and do not truncate them those costs would continue to rise.

Some of these services have a flat fee but that’s better than I expected. As you can see the best way to tell how much something is going to cost is to do some beta testing. It’s still kind of pricey for a single developer on a home network if that’s you. I’m going to explore some other options in a future post maybe to bring that down.

Something in my organization jacked up my costs recently and I attributed it to this but have some other things in there as well. Of course I send minimal data so if you have a much larger organization sending a lot more data your costs will be different.

What’s the breakdown? The monthly VPC services were $120.32. That’s a bit below my estimate. If you do the math this amount does seem to be prorated.

The data transfer costs were $34.34. That’s where I wasn’t sure exactly how much data I would be sending. It was lower than I expected. I don’t see any log storage here.

I may test out a few other things in a future post to improve security and maybe reduce costs, and of course I want to automate everything.
