“Your Story Has 10 Fans On Medium” — A Superb Little Notification That Gives Me A Huge Motivation Boost

I will make this quick and easy.

In January, I received such notifications four times in total.

It’s nothing new and I’ve touched on it briefly in earlier posts. Engagement is the key to your success on Medium. I could discuss the why, how, when, or whatever, but I thought I would just highlight the four remarks I’ve made that have caused my notification light to illuminate. Not once, not twice, but four times in the past month.

While showing you these four comments, I will also mention the authors of the stories and share a link to each of them.

Also, I am nothing special and I am far from anything like a “Medium Expert” and I don’t spend countless hours per day on Medium.

  • I made a total of 160 comments throughout January.
This is the first comment I made that received 10 fans

I made this comment on one of Carl Jeffers previous posts. At the time I am writing this, the comment has 73 claps from 12 people.

The next comment that received 10 fans were another comment on one of Carl Jeffers other stories. It has 68 claps from 19 people at the time I am writing this.

The third comment to reach 10 fans was something I wrote on a story from John Hua Technology ☕️. It has 145 claps from 13 people.

That comment is also on the top of the comments, which obviously increase the visibility a lot.

The fourth and last comment I’ve made that pushed my notification bell was a comment I made on a previous post by Daniel T. The comment has 101 claps from 10 people at the time I’m writing this.

Can You See The Theme?

To begin with, the topic at hand is Medium. In one way or another, Medium is the subject of all four stories.

Second, not a single one of my comments is poorly written and consists entirely of phrases like “Thanks!” or “Follow me.” Nor is it spammy-looking garbage.

It’s not like any of the comments are sophisticated, wonderful, or “out of this world” — those are just common comments.

Honestly, even a little toddler can make more insightful replies than “Thanks!” or “Follow me.” So why do people even think it’s worth saying things like that?

  • It’s simply a time-waster.

The icing on the cake is that my comments are visible to everyone for as long as the content is available. This implies that my comments, also known as my profile, and the delicious follow button next to my name will always be visible..

That’s how I start receiving comments, claps, and highlights on my own work as well. All I have to do is start someplace. You should also do so.
