Coming Home to Myself: Returning and Awakening As the Beginning of My Healing Journey
We’re often told to find our passion in life and to pursue that passion professionally.

You’ve likely heard the saying, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work again a day in your life.” Yet this saying has also received backlash, as it’s a valid point that passions don’t necessarily (or easily) pay the bills. It’s also a matter of fact that our sense of purpose can change at different points of our lives depending on both our own individual reality and the collective reality (and where we are at in our journey/s).
For me personally, I’ve always held multiple passions and struggled with finding a linear path, clear direction, or singular purpose that I could successfully monetize. I ended up juggling different full-time jobs and side hustles/gigs throughout my life. Now I am working on forging a new path in holistic health and earth medicine advocacy and coaching. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial streak and unconventional mindset. I also have a background in education, a skill set that I believe carries over well to my new path.
Yet the irony of gaining newfound clarity in my path is that, as I have discussed previously, work is called “work” for a reason. Doing anything worthwhile takes work, time, effort, and practice. Work is iterative. So I have to temper my enthusiasm with patience, and my sense of awakening with humility. Being somewhat of a novice healing practitioner means I must recognize the work I have yet to do forge a name for myself, it means not getting discouraged and finding patience, but it also means that I have a fresh perspective, that I am open to learning, and I have some of that fresh-eyed wonder for my new path.
I officially just launched my health coach and earth medicine integration specialist website, which also links to my other social media pages, including this Medium account. I’m hoping that in this increasingly digital age that I will begin to find clients to work with, as now I am available for virtual sessions, and this opens up many doors of possibilities.
So, I counter the trite, overly simplistic, idealistic phrase, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work again a day in your life.” And if the phrase applies to you, more power to you; but most of us recognize that our work has value and is indeed work, even if it is a heart-centered path that we are following. So I bow my head down and continue to do the work. All I can do is to continue to share my stories and work to continue to help spread the spores and the seeds for healing, to serve and support people coming home to themselves and their power.
