Spring Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Nature Art”

Salem, witches and warlocks stack rocks.

In the summer of 2020, we vacationed at a campground near Salem, Ma, Winter Island Park. We spent time hiking the grounds of historic Fort Pickering. My wife stacked rocks to look like a witch’s hat since we were in Salem, MA.

A Bit about Winter Island Park

“Listed on the National Register as a Historic District and Archaeological site,”¹ Winter Island is home to Fort Pickering, where the USS Essex was built, a frigate that served in the War of 1812.

A frigate is a sailing warship. This small island offers plenty of ocean views and interesting hiking trails.

A Bit about Salem, MA

Salem is famous for the witch trials of 1692, “… in American history, a series of investigations and prosecutions that caused 19 convicted “witches” to be hanged and many other suspects to be imprisoned in Salem Village in the Massachusetts Bay Colony…”²
