Cognitive and Emotional Empathy
Know Thyself Heal Thyself Poem Prompt: empathy

Cognitive Empathy: is the tracing of words spoken across time and space; to understand that what I intend to say is not necessarily how others interpret it nor is what others said necessarily how I understood things — theory of mind.
Emotional Empathy: the sharing of an emotion in tandem, in sharing loss, in sharing joy, in connecting on a personal level.
To understand what others think and say, and further explore how others might perceive our words and actions, and to share emotions on a deeper level — is to be human.
Lucy (The Eggcademic) [she/her] loves reflecting on these two different components of empathy and how it appears not only in her life but in characters in tv shows, books — even podcasters and YouTubers. Thank you so much to 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘊. for this week’s prompt: empathy! What’s next: this piece from Tara Haelle or this rabbit hole?
