As Gina and I sat, enjoying a glass of wine and chatting, Paul walked in. Our eyes met, and that familiar grin grew across his round face. We had tried to meet up a few times after the bar (read it here: https://readmedium.com/chronicles-of-a-married-sex-addict-moving-forward-part-ten-a631a046f3fc), but his travel schedule for work kept him pretty busy. He walked up to me as soon as he saw me.
Paul: “Hey, stranger! It’s been a while.”
Me: “Yes it has… This is my friend, Gina.”
Paul: “Haven’t I seen you before at Buster’s?”
Gina: “Probably. I go there a lot. Nice to meet you.”
Me: “You can chill with us if you’re alone.”
Paul: “Thanks. I’m actually meeting Jack. We could all hang together.”
I froze for a moment and Gina whispered: “The Jack?” I nodded slightly. Gina was well-versed in the continuing Jack saga. Our love woes were all we talked about when we were drinking.
Paul: “What are you whispering about? Something fun?”
Me: “No. We were just talking about heading to Buster’s actually. Gina has some friends waiting for her there.”
Gina: “Um, yeah, they should be there anytime now.”
Paul: “Ok. Maybe we can meet up later?”
Me: “Sure. Message me or whatever.”
As we walked out the door, Gina spoke up, “You and Jack on the outs again?” I nodded and shrugged. Jack was just a friend with benefits at this point, but I didn’t want to face him tonight. Gina and I left for Buster’s and decided to drop our cars off at our homes and get a taxi. While at Buster’s, the predictable happened… Jack and Paul showed up. Paul was scanning the crowd for me and I knew it was a matter of time before he found me. The awkwardness of the situation was my fault. Paul didn’t know about me and Jack. Jack didn’t know about me and Paul. Neither knew about me and Gina. I wasn’t sure how to play the situation, so I did what any self-respecting woman would do and hid in the ladies room. Gina followed close behind.
Gina: “Was that Jack? He’s cute.”
Me: “Yeah. We aren’t on the best terms right now and, spoiler alert, he and Paul are best friends. AND neither one knows that I’ve been fucking the other.”
Gina: “Ohhhh. That explains the duck and cover.”
Me: “They also don’t know about us hooking up either.”
Gina: “Well, tell them. We can have some real fun that way.”
Me: “I’m just going to chill here for a minute and think.”
Gina: “Well, enjoying thinking. I’m going to go see Paul and meet Jack.”
Gina was a larger than life character. Always wanting more and more out of life and was not afraid to go after it. She walked confidently out of the bathroom in search of Paul and Jack. I took a deep breath and followed right behind, but landed at the bar for drink. Gina came back with Paul and Jack.
Gina: “I knew I’d find you here! Look who I ran into!”
Paul: “Hey. I decided to follow you.”
I looked into Jack’s blue eyes and smiled with a friendly nod.
Me: “Hey Jack. It’s been a while.”
Jack: “Yeah it has. It’s good to see you.”
Gina: “Hey let’s all take a shot together. Four puckers, please!”
We all took a test tube from the holder and shot it down.
Me: “So, Jack, Paul told me you’re getting married. When’s the big day?”
Jack (looking a little angry): “It’s in May. I hear you’re married already. Where’s your husband?”
Me (grinning): “Yep. Married 12 years. He’s actually right over there…”
All three of them abruptly turned the direction I was pointing.
Me: “Just kidding. He’s at home being a good little boy.”
Jack: “Hey Paul, I think I’m going to head home. It’s been a long day.”
Paul: “Oh ok. I guess I’ll see you around.”
Me: “You didn’t tell him about us, did you?”
Paul: “No, why?”
Me: “I am still married, so trying to keep everything hush-hush.”
Paul: “Well you’re secret is safe with me.”
Gina: “Me too!”
Paul: “Wait, what secret do you two have?”
Gina and I looked at each other and I chuckled.
Me: “Carpe Diem, I suppose.”
I leaned over and kissed Gina while Paul watched… Continue to Part Fifteen: https://readmedium.com/chronicles-of-a-married-sex-addict-1-1-1-part-fifteen-332c90e4c1fb
