Change Them — Keep Your Good Heart
Forgive the ungrateful people who are attempting to taint your heart. Then change them and keep your good heart!

“What the hell is going on with you?” Lorrie demands from Opal “You used to have a kind heart, what happened to it?”
“The cruelty and thoughtlessness of humanity took it away,” she explained.
“Or did you give it to them?”
“What am I supposed to do? Sit by idle and allow everyone to destroy me and do nothing? Who do you think I am, Jesus Christ?”
“I expect you to be smarter?”
“You expect me not to change when life’s cruelty and wickedness attacked me from all sides?”
Lorrie took several deep breaths, then encouraged, “You are allowing the cruelty of humanity to destroy the most beautiful part of you. Your kind heart. You are loved, known and respected for the good you do.”
Well,” she said swaying her head left to right glaring at Lorrie. “All good things must end. You know nothing lasts forever.”
“You know that the moment you change, so will everything in your life,” Lorrie warns.
“So what?”
“All of your good actions, choices, decisions and intentions will be replaced with negativity. Then the bad that follows them will complicate your life and reign hell upon you,” Lorrie reminds her.
“And?” she went on, rolling her eyes at Lorrie.
“What should I tell the children when they ask for you?”
Silence.
Lorrie adds more, “Chris doesn’t eat until you come in. Rosa won’t go to sleep unless you are there to say her prayers with her. Jeremy won’t do his work without you there. Beverly waits for you to come every day before she gets out of bed. Tony won’t go to class unless you are there. And the list of children who rely on your kindness goes on and on.”
Tears reeling down, Opal wept, “It seems as if only children and animals know and appreciate the value of love and kindness. How?” she cried.
“Fancy and her kittens only take food from you. Devina and her pups do the same. They will starve if you allow humans to taint your heart,” Lorrie poured more on.
“How do you do it?” she wept. “How do I protect my heart from the cruelty of humanity?”
“You mean don’t allow the cruelty of humanity to change me?”
She nods beneath the tears.
“I change them,” Lorrie explained.
“What?” Opal asked wiping away her tears.
“I change the people,” Lorrie states.
“I don’t understand.”
“Having a good heart, I am aware of the consequences and results. That made me aware of the opposite too. I was you. I allowed humanity’s cruelty to taint my heart. I felt the pain. I learned that cruelty doesn’t only hurt who I give it to. It hurts me too,” Lorrie educates.
“So, what did you do?”
“I like having a good heart. I enjoy helping others. I love to see the smile on the faces of the people I help. I enjoy seeing the plants I water come to life. I enjoy seeing the dogs and the other animals I feed wagging their tails whenever they see me. They are happy to see me. I didn’t want to change that. So, I forgive, then change the ungrateful people and kept my good heart.”
“I can do that,” Opal agrees blowing her nostrils with Kleenex. “I love working with those kids. I look forward to going to work every morning. They made me so happy. I don’t want to change that.”
“Then forgive, then change the ungrateful people and keep your good heart.”

In a discussion about someone with a good heart who allowed the cruelty of humanity to taint their heart. I too have been here. I am aware and can feel the results and consequences of good and bad. I choose good, but that means I must change the people who can corrupt the best part of me. So, I forgive, then change the corrupted people, and keep my good heart.”
For 2024, forgive the ungrateful people who are attempting to taint your heart. Then change them and keep your good heart!
