Caught Red-Handed
A child may be watching you
Dolores was going to jail. After weeks of planning on how to steal the Versace dress she saw in the window of the store. This included weeks of casing the store, noting where all the cameras were located, the little girl standing still by the door and even when the security guard took his breaks. Still she’d made a mistake.
As soon as she walked into the store, her nerves seemed to be shakier than normal before a heist. She chalked it up to her excitement about having this exquisite $6000 cocktail dress.
She knew when she walked into the gala wearing it, all eyes would be on her. She could see how amazing she would look and she could hear the people around her saying “Wow, doesn’t she look fantastic. Where did she get that dress?”
Getting back to the task at hand she moved around the store remembering every detail as she had rehearsed it so many times before.
She looked at three dresses before the sales woman came over to ask if she needed any help. Of course, she would say yes, because she needed the sales woman to focus on something other than her.
She picked out a few dresses to try on, knowing that it was customary in these stores for the salesperson to set the dressing room up for their customers before they went in to try on the clothes.
Once the saleswoman was in the dressing room, Dolores made her move. The black gown, with blue sequins running down one side, was displayed on a Mannequin in the window.
She moved over quickly to the dress and begin pulling it from the plastic body that only moments ago looked like the perfect model in the beautiful garment.
She had to move fast, she knew she would only have a couple of minutes and the saleswoman would be back. As she begin to pull the dress over the Mannequin’s head, the little girl appeared beside her.
The child smiled at her with perfect teeth and begin tugging on the side of her dress. Dolores was annoyed and tried to push the little girl aside.
As if on cue, the little girl tugged on her skirt again and this time the child changed into something with a near human face and artificial smile.
Startled, Dolores tried to release the child’s hand from her skirt, but the child’s grip was too strong. Hearing the door to the dressing room open, Delores decided to leave the dress and flee.
Unfortunately, she was too late. The Childlike Humanistic Intelligent Little Detective (CHILD), had caught her red handed, detained her and the police were on the way.
Dolores was going to jail.
