Casualty

As I wave in the breeze hanging momentarily In an eternal second I look across the bay of my life Wondering how you could possibly Hoist me up with your incendiary petard Taking stock of my own meager mark Thinking of how you stood on my growing back Raising up year after year As I groaned in lamentation Under your burdensome weight Until finally, you reached the fruit you were after Jumping off with a kick As I rolled down the hill You tossed your ticking bomb With the blow and a timely jostling roll Right off the grassy knoll, I flew Crucified by red-hot shrapnel Already bleeding out Before I reached the culvert at the bottom Eyes open, but no longer registering You stood over me picking my pockets Storing your ill gotten gains Alongside the same volatile chemicals Used to drain me of my life
