Facing Your Demons

Have you had to look directly into the blazing eyes of your deepest fears made real? Felt that rank breath on your face in the night, as you lay paralyzed in the choking air. Screaming at the top of your lungs, though only the slightest stream of air seems to escape your locked jaw and clenched lips. Hot water streaming into your ears, drowning out the raspy laugh, not sure if it’s actually good to feel your eardrums wet. Begging your eyes to close, even knowing you will still have to hear every vicious evil ever perpetrated upon you in between drips. Yet it doesn’t matter, because having the images splashed across your eyeballs is just too much. Finally released into a violent thrashing upstart, already awake, already in a panic. Another day stolen by the villains of the past. Why is it that only ghosts seem to have time-traveling prowess? Even once you think you have escaped, your dreams aren’t safe as the staging point for invasion into your current reality, any vanquished foe can slip right through, and you are there fighting all the bitter demons as if they never left.
