Summary

The website content addresses the critical issue of carbon emissions as a significant threat to the future, emphasizing the urgency for humanity to take action against climate change.

Abstract

The article "Carbon Emission, an Ultimate Threat" discusses the severe consequences of human-induced climate change, highlighted by the rapid melting of glaciers and the subsequent rise in sea levels. It underscores the role of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide, in global warming, and how human activities contribute significantly to these emissions. Despite a temporary dip in emissions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the underlying causes of carbon emissions remain. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns of the dire effects of rising temperatures, including changes in coastlines and the sinking of land. The article calls for immediate preventive measures, such as the adoption of renewable energy sources and reduction in fuel consumption, to mitigate the impact of climate change for future generations.

Opinions

  • The article conveys a sense of urgency, labeling climate change as an "ultimate threat" that requires immediate attention and action.
  • It suggests that the temporary reduction in carbon emissions due to the COVID-19 pandemic is not sufficient to address the climate crisis.
  • The piece criticizes human behavior as being responsible for the current state of the environment, including natural disasters and the extinction of species.
  • It questions the effectiveness of imposing a carbon tax as a solution to the environmental damage caused by humans.
  • The author advocates for personal responsibility and collective effort in adopting sustainable practices, such as recycling and conserving water, to protect the planet for future generations.
  • There is an underlying opinion that while some emissions are part of necessary human activities, there is still much room for reducing unnecessary contributions to carbon emissions.

Those threats and alarms, Do they sound familiar? Are we even bothered by the consequences of climate change triggered and caused by us?

The good news is that the COVID-19 crisis causes a 17% drop in global carbon emissions, But, is that enough to secure or preserve our nature future?

To handle the pandemic, the governments from all around the world, took nasty decisions. People were confined to home, International borders were closed, Offices were closed, Transportations were on thin lines. Those actions were lead to consumption pattern changes and resulted in a slower emission rate.

OK, seems highly relieved but not yet;

The Bottom line is, Carbon Emission causes are not eliminated, but some actions took resulted in a better outlook.

The Melting

Thanks to oceanographers and glaciologists who are watching over us.

Using new technology and its measurements, scientists found that glaciers are melting 100 Times faster than previously, which is way beyond their initial estimations and assumptions they have had.

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Glacier starts to melt when there is a rise in temperature, which results in more water flows into the sea contributing to warm up seawater thus its volume expands. This results in a rising average global sea level between four and eight inches in the past 100 years.

But the current rising rate is much higher, thus causing changes in the world’s coastlines. Now coasts are sinking, a process called subsidence. Rising Sealevel, Sinking land, Eroding Coasts is an ultimate threat to humanity.

The Melting Factor: Greenhouse Gas (GHG)

Greenhouse gas is also known as the thermal Blanket of our planet.

The earth is too cold with too little greenhouse gas and too warm with too much Greenhouse gas.

That sounds like neither here nor there. So the Greenhouse gas effect makes our planet liveable by holding on to some of the Earth’s heat and which is why the effect is being classified as a thermal blanket. The heat-trapping system is known as the Greenhouse effect.

Without the Greenhouse effect, the Earth’s average temperature would be Negative (-) Degree Celsius, and we humans, life would not be able to survive.

Greenhouse gas is nothing but compund of Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Water Vapor, Nitrous Oxide, and Ozone.

So the risk involved is pretty clear from the compound itself. The main culprit is Carbon Dioxide.

Carbon Emission, Produces and Contributes by We Humans

Carbon Emission occurs the moment you,

Turn on your heater

Turn on your air conditioner

Make an unnecessary trip by any mode

Start cooking

So pretty much contributes by everything we do, but those are necessities and much needed for our survival. We can’t stop doing those, Can we? We can’t eliminate them completely, but surely, we should put an effort to reduce it.

The CO2 percentage generates by humans or any other living animals is incomparable Vs generated from the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas to produce electricity.

However, the fact still remains the same. We, humans, are causing it.

We, the producers, and contributors are the ones who are suffering from our own repercussions, knowingly or unknowingly we are letting our future generations too.

Are we realizing that we are responsible for all those natural disasters, heat waves, floods, droughts, climate change, extinction of lives, dirtier air, poor air quality, higher death rates, acidic oceans?

I am not ashamed to say that “We, the humans are most cruel and inconsiderate”

And to suppress our own voice, we introduced “Carbon Tax Charges”. We invented the problem, we accelerated the growth and we imposed a tax on it. So by paying a certain percentage of the amount, Will the earth rehabilitate and reconstruct on its own thinking that humans have been charged and paid for their action?

Prevention starts today, Not tomorrow

  1. It’s high time to rely on renewable energies like solar, water, wind.
  2. Use less fuel, avoid unnecessary trips. Be it by road, Sea, and air.
  3. Love nature, Save them and Protect them.
  4. Reduce wastage, be it water, food, plastic. Anything, you name it.

Notes

In my household, I do keep a special bin for recycling items somewhere near to the trash bin. I have been reminding everyone at home including my 5-year-old daughter to segregate the rubbish.

I have been reminding my husband when he turns on the faucet. “Don't waste water, there is not enough fresh water for our next generations”.

So my thinking is, Together, Let’s put a little effort into our future generations.
