Capturing “The Golden Hour” in Photography
Playing with nature’s light

Capturing the golden hour in photography can make for some stunning images, as Rhonda Carrier recently wrote about:
What is the golden hour?
“It is the last hour before sunset and the first hour after sunrise. It is when the angle of the sun on the horizon provides a golden hue that is not directly overhead, so it creates wonderful shadows and soft golden light on faces.”
So, I dove into my photo albums to come up with these humble offerings of photos I’ve captured at the golden hour.
Florida at sunrise

With so many picturesque lakes and ponds in Florida, it can make for some gorgeous captures… like these I took in the backyard at sunrise one morning while sitting and sipping my morning coffee.
Snake River at sunset

The sun setting or rising over the water is especially magnificent. The play of light and colors are truly magical and can make for some stunning photos.
I have tons of beautiful photos of the Idaho Snake River at sunset, like these two above.
Flowers at sunset

Capturing flowers in photos is one of my favorite things! Like this lovely pink oleander. It had also been raining, as you can tell from the gentle droplets clinging to the buds.
Contrast between day and sunset

I will sometimes get photos of the same or similar flowers during the day and then again at sunset… they look completely different! How amazing nature is.
