Capturing the Art of a Sunset: Reflections on Finding Beauty After Addiction and City Life

The sunset can be so amazing with it’s ray of colors shining down on us. Capturing such beauty is hard. To get the perfect colors from what your eyes are seeing into your camera is a work of art. I admire those photographers that are able to capture that display of colors.

For most my life I was unable to see the sunset for the true beauty it was. When you live in the city surrounded by houses and buildings, seeing the sun set or even rise was obscured by everything around you. Makes seeing it actually rise or set is nearly impossible.

Even the rare times I would have been able to see the sunset, I could never see it, not truly see it. When I was using drugs for so many years, things as simple as the sunset, even though how amazing it was, was the last thing on my mind.

After being in recovery for year’s we finally moved out of the city but our back, front and sides of our house was surrounded by forest. As you see in the picture above, that was the most I was getting for any sunset or sunrise. However, I did still live in the country and I could go take pictures elsewhere. Like this next one on the lake when I was fishing.

I had read in a great post by Elvie Lins on how nature makes one feel. Link to the post will be below. I agree with her, on the love one feels from watching the beauty of the sunset. The colors are so pretty and just makes me feel so at peace with nature.

So happy I have the opportunity to to finally see and enjoy the sunset. Has made my stress level go down and I am happier. Think the same goes for my husband. His happiness level has seem to have risen too. Is it the sunset for him also? I believe so.

Moving from the forest to this house his mood has changed, so I believe it is. Do you think so? Does watching the sunset or raise make you feel better too?

Thanks for reading hope you enjoy my amateur photos.
