Can Medium be a source of a passive income stream? I’ve been thinking about this a lot. When I first started on Medium a year ago, I had read such different opinions on this. Some showed statistics of old articles generating income months after publication. Others showed receipts of articles earning 3 cents and never to be seen again. I think a few factors contribute to the possibility of Medium being a source of passive income:
- Having a large following and having started early — There’s a tangible difference in the stories of people who started at the beginning of the Medium journey than people who are starting now.
- Self-promotion — Learning to self-promote beyond what the Medium algorithm promotes helps draw the audience needed for the algorithm to start wanting to promote your pieces.
- Certain niches — As always, productivity, business and psychology themes (particularly personality) reign on this platform.
