Summary

The provided content discusses the ethics and statistics surrounding elective abortions in the United States, questioning the role of men in the decision-making process and highlighting the discrepancies between public discourse and actual data regarding abortion rates and reasons.

Abstract

The article presents a perspective on the abortion debate, emphasizing that the majority of abortions in the U.S. are elective, with only a small percentage being due to health complications, rape, or incest. It cites studies from the Alan Guttmacher Institute and BMC Women Health to illustrate that financial concerns, timing, and partner-related issues are the primary reasons women seek abortions. The piece also critiques the narrative that abortions are rare, pointing out that even 1% of reported abortions equate to hundreds of thousands of procedures annually. Additionally, it challenges the notion that abortion is solely a woman's issue, arguing for the inclusion of men's perspectives, and suggests that the decline of marriage and family values contributes to the prevalence of abortion, proposing that a re-building of these values is necessary to address the issue.

Opinions

  • The article implies that the common liberal and feminist narrative focuses disproportionately on extreme cases like rape and incest, rather than acknowledging the prevalence of elective abortions.
  • It suggests that men should have a say in the decision to terminate a pregnancy, given that the fetus is formed from both the male and female genetic material.
  • The piece criticizes the stance of figures like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and former U.S. President Barack Obama for minimizing the significance of abortion numbers and for framing abortion as an exclusive women's rights issue.
  • It argues that the current approach to abortion reflects a societal trend of prioritizing convenience and avoiding responsibility, as evidenced by the reasons women give for seeking abortions.
  • The article posits that the breakdown of traditional family structures and the rise of single-parent households contribute to the frequency of abortions.
  • It advocates for a return to stronger marriage and family values as a solution to reduce the prevalence of abortion, suggesting that this is a shared responsibility between men and women.

Can a Man Have a Say About Killing His Babies(or Abortion)?

And is the number of killings rare, as Barack Obama claims?

Picture this.

A man and woman want to have a child. They have sex. She becomes pregnant. After six weeks or more and due to factors of convenience (e.g., not wanting a child interfering with her job or schooling), she decides to terminate her pregnancy.

According to a 2004 study by Alan Guttmacher Institute, 98% of abortions in the United States are like that. They are elective, meaning there is no health complication, rape, incest, or threat to the mother’s health.

It seems that liberals and feminists deliberately ignore the 98% and keep repeating that women who opt for abortion are victims of rape and incest.

Let’s look at a different study by BMC Women Health. It relies on data collected from 2008 through the end of 2010.

The study included “954 women from 30 abortion facilities across the US who responded to two open-ended questions regarding the reasons why they wanted to terminate their pregnancy approximately one week after seeking an abortion.”

The predominant themes identified as reasons for seeking abortion included financial reasons (40%), timing (36%), partner related reasons (31%), and the need to focus on other children (29%). Most women reported multiple reasons for seeking an abortion crossing over several themes (64%).

A Woman-Only Issue?

Commenting on the US Supreme Court’s draft decision to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortion, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau said:

The right to choose is a woman’s right and a woman’s right alone. Every woman in Canada has a right to a safe and legal abortion. We’ll never back down from protecting and promoting women’s rights in Canada and around the world.

In other words, Trudeau says that the consultation of the husband or male partner is not and should not be required to terminate a pregnancy.

Is It About Science?

The right to choose is a woman’s right and a woman’s right alone.

Trudeau claims that he follows science in every decision he makes for Canadians. What’s the science behind his statement? The fetus is in the woman’s body. But it’s formed by the egg of the female and the sperm of the male. So why is the consultation of the husband or male partner not required to terminate a pregnancy? Isn’t it the right of the husband to have a say in this issue?

Where Is Equality?

If the man doesn’t have the right to have a say in this matter, his opportunity to become a parent depends on the woman. So there is no equality here. The man is entirely submissive to the woman.

Are 638,000 Killings a Year Only A “Few”?

Former US President Barack Obama says that “a few, if any, women make the decision to terminate a pregnancy casually.

This is how the pro-choice camp is minimizing the value of life. If only a few thousand babies are murdered every year, that’s not such a big deal to them!

They argue that abortions are rare. They would quote Dr. Daniel Grossman, a professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. He performs abortions and is a spokesman for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, where he leads a committee on health care for underserved women.

A healthy fetus becomes viable — potentially able to survive outside the womb — at about 24 weeks of pregnancy. Only about 1.3 percent of abortions in the United States in 2015 were performed in or after the 21st week of pregnancy, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Less than 1 percent of all abortions are done after 24 weeks, and many are performed because the fetus has a fatal condition or the pregnant woman’s life or health is at severe risk.

The central pillar of their propaganda is to throw around this 1% number to make it seem like abortions are very minimal.

Let’s look at the crucial details they are ignoring:

According to a 2015 CDC study, Abortion Surveillance, 1% of the hundreds of thousands of reported abortions in 2015 equals over 638,000, meaning that tens of thousands of viable infants and innocent souls are murdered every year in just the United States.

Also, as the CDC admits, their data is partial. They could only gather partial data on the legal abortions done in 47 states who voluntarily reported data. And, of course, we don’t have the number of illegal abortions. Therefore, it would not be an exaggeration to say that over one million abortions occur in the United States alone.

Sex For Fun. No Responsibility

48% of the women surveyed by the Alan Guttmacher Institute in 2004 indicated that they “don’t want to be single mothers or have relationship issues.” The percentage was 52% in 1987. It didn’t change much over the last 17 years.

In other words, people, be men or women, don’t have trust in each other. They have sex but do not want to deal with the consequences and responsibilities. According to Pew Research, the number of U.S. children living with a single parent has been rising, accompanied by a decline in marriage rates and a rise in births outside of marriage. Therefore, much of society is growing up without fathers or mothers. The fall of marriage leads to fewer men and women committed to each other in a stable relationship that can support having children.

Abortion provides a convenient way out, and this is how the vast majority of women are using abortion today.

The re-building of marriage and family values is the only cure for this disease. It’s a shared responsibility between the man and the woman.
