Summary

The website content discusses the psychological exploration of captivity and Stockholm Syndrome through the fictional series "Wife Imprisonment," which follows the character Gill's complex relationship with her captor.

Abstract

The "Wife Imprisonment" series, authored by an unnamed writer, delves into the intricate psychological transformation of a character named Gill, who experiences captivity and develops Stockholm Syndrome. The narrative challenges the reader with a protagonist who is flawed and far from a typical damsel in distress, having cheated on her captor and lacking employment or social connections. The series is described as transgressive and not for the faint of heart, as it examines the mental stages one might go through when held against their will. The author aims to explore the primal survival instinct that can lead to a captive forming a bond with and becoming reliant on their captor. Readers are invited to start the series from the beginning with the first installment titled "Wife Imprisonment #1: Crazy for You" and to explore more stories by the author on the GimmeMore platform.

Opinions

  • The author acknowledges that the series has provoked varied reactions, with some readers rooting for the protagonist to seek revenge against her captor.
  • The author expresses amusement at the audience's response, particularly because Gill is portrayed as an imperfect character with her own faults.
  • The series is seen as a bold and challenging narrative, suitable for readers who are not easily disturbed.
  • The author suggests that many people may feel imprisoned in subtle ways, drawing a parallel between the extreme situation of the protagonist and the everyday experiences of the audience.
  • The author views the Stockholm Syndrome as a survival instinct, which is a key theme in the series.

Caged: A Story with the Stockholm Syndrome at its Heart

But aren’t many of us imprisoned? Be it in a more subtle way?

The reaction I’ve had so far to my series Wife Imprisonment has made me smile. Some are rooting for Gill to get back at her husband for locking her up. This does make me smile as Gill’s no princess. She’s a bit of a loser, not having a job or friends, and cheating on Digger at the pub.

Thinking about being held captive:

Aren’t many of us imprisoned? Be it in a more subtle way?

I wrote this series as a challenge to myself, wanting to delve into what thought stages a person may go through in this situation.

It’s transgressive, harsh. For the brave, not faint-hearted.

Gill went through what is known as Stockholm Syndrome. This is a mindset that some captives apparently take on. They become bonded and wilfully reliant on the person who has imprisoned them. I think this is probably down to the primal survival instinct.
