‘By Dawn’s Early Light’ or ‘At the Close of the Day’?’

Sunrise or Sunset — Do you have a favorite?

“There’s a sunrise and a sunset every single day, and they’re absolutely free. Don’t miss so many of them.” — Jo Walton

A few days ago, I posted 8 writing prompts as a fun thing, in case anyone was looking for some inspiration about something to write about.

Then I thought — Trisha, you need to answer one of your prompts yourself!

Yes, I talk to myself. A lot.

One of the prompts I’d shared was:

Which do you prefer? Sunrise or sunset?

To be honest, I chose this one to respond to because it sounded like an easy one. But it wasn’t as easy as I anticipated. Because as I thought of each one, I realized that both of them had so much beauty.

I sat here in front of the keyboard, musing about which one is my favorite. Just based on how they each appear to us; I couldn’t choose one over the other.

But then the truth set in.

I’ve seen a lot more sunsets than I’ve seen sunrises. Sunrises do have their own bright marvelousness. A new day dawning. A glorious sight that fills the sky with magnificence.

But…they just come so darned…early!

My sister and my dad are wonderful early birds that get up to get the worms. Me? Not so much. I’ve tried to overcome my night owl tendencies. But I haven’t been very successful.

I pulled up a few fun quotes that I could use in this story. And then I sat here contemplating about what I was going to write. In deep thought, I looked out the window … and saw the most glorious pink hues reflected on the clouds to the south of me.

That’s it!

Sunsets it is!

I grabbed my phone and ran out the door to try to capture the beauty I saw. The clouds to the south of me were hued a shimmery pink. Then I turned to the west and saw the sky on fire. All three shots here were captured within a minute of each other.

Sunsets.

That’s my final answer.

I’m going with Sunsets for the win.

“May every sunrise hold more promise and every sunset hold more peace.” — Umair Siddiqui

“There’s always a sunrise and always a sunset and it’s up to you to choose to be there for it.” — Cheryl Strayed

“Never waste any amount of time doing anything important when there is a sunset outside that you should be sitting under.” — C. JoyBell C.

“You want proof there’s a God? Look outside, watch a sunset.” — Frank E. Peretti
