Abstract

The author of the content is advocating for support of Ukrainian designers during a time of crisis by featuring the work of a Ukrainian designer on Etsy who sells bracelets. The author personally purchased a bracelet, acknowledging the importance of financially supporting the designer, especially given the situation in Ukraine. The article also provides a step-by-step guide on how to financially support Ukrainian needlework designers by making purchases on Ravelry and Etsy, emphasizing that the act of purchasing is a form of donation, regardless of whether the item is downloaded or used. The author's daughter played a role in discovering the Etsy designer, and the article concludes with a call to action for readers to contribute, as well as providing the author's background as a writer and editor on Medium.

Opinions

  • The author expresses a strong preference for directly supporting Ukrainian designers by purchasing their work rather than simply donating to a cause.

  • The author views the act of purchasing designs or items, even if they are not used or downloaded, as a valuable form of support and solidarity with Ukrainian designers.
  • There is an opinion that buying a physical product, in this case, a bracelet, is preferable as it not only provides financial support but also showcases the craftsmanship of the designer.
  • The author finds the quality of the designer's work to be comparable to more expensive items, making the purchase even more worthwhile.
  • The author's initiative is part of a broader effort to encourage continued assistance to Ukrainian creators, as evidenced by their previous writings and calls to action on Medium.
  • The author's personal connection to the cause is evident through their narrative and the involvement of their daughter in discovering the featured designer.

Buy A Bracelet For Ukraine

Today I’m featuring the work of a designer who sells her work on Etsy.

Instead of hawking knitting patterns for Ukrainian designers, today I’m featuring an Etsy store by a Ukrainian designer who was shipping her items as of February. My daughter knows of my personal project to support Ukrainian needlework designers and forwarded a tweet by a woman who discovered this designer. She highly recommends her work and has posted several tweets comparing her products to similar items selling for hundreds of dollars more. The Tweeter does not show her posts publicly so I’m not displaying her post.

Here is the designer’s Etsy store.

I was moved to buy her bracelet for $9 and $9 shipping. I’d rather have the designer keep the shipping money, but I will be happy to show off her craftsmanship as well as my support for Ukraine.

Won’t you join me? I’ll post a photo when the bracelet arrives and will treasure wearing it.

To remind new readers, I post about Ukrainian needlework designers to encourage donations into their digital accounts.

Every penny counts when you’re starving, displaced, cut off from your loved ones. Here’s one way you can help.

Log on to Ravelry.com.

Sign up if you don’t have an account. Go to the link on their home page that says “follow this link to Ukrainian designers.”

Pick any knitted or crocheted item and click buy. Don’t pick a free item for obvious reasons.

Pay for it.

That’s all. You don’t have to download it, knit it, or even like it. Just send money.

For Etsy, go to Etsy.com.

Put Ukraine in the search box and pick a downloadable item. Don’t pick something that needs mailing.

Pay for it, and you’re done.

If you have trouble, message me in the comments.

Thank you and Slava Ukraine.
