When Words and Painting Combine
Bursts of Hope
An ekphrastic twittle

Bursts of feathered petals take flight into the blue of the day Innocence upon the wings o’ joy spread hope, coming your way.

I’ve written this twittle in response to Monoreena’s gorgeous painting, Optimism. In her description, she does not identify the flower species but she writes of hope –
We learn to hope. Optimism, nature’s way.
I tried to reflect that sentiment in the twittle. I did something similar with this twittle that was inspired by the words of Lilie Kaizen and the flowers in my own garden.
We need go no further than flowers — and nature — to find optimism and hope.
Thank you, Monoreena, for inviting me to write about your glorious artwork. Thank you also to the editorial team at Literary Impulse for hosting the When Words and Painting Combine challenge, and for accepting this piece into their publication. 🙏 💕
An extra thank you to Kimberly Hampton Nilsson for tagging me into the prompt with her beautiful piece, Tuscan Rose —
I would like to take this opportunity to invite some fellow poets to respond to Monoreena’s painting — Dennett | Gurpreet Dhariwal | Setraj Jahan | Marilyn J Wolf | Gustave Deresse | Suntonu Bhadra | Suma Narayan
