A couple of years ago, when I was in college and had created my LinkedIn profile I didn’t know the tricks of optimization and having a complete profile full of details and information.
When I first joined the corporate world fresh out of college, I started looking at other profiles to see how others have created their profiles that look really informative and detailed.
So I went through a couple of LinkedIn articles to understand the techniques that can help in creating a solid LinkedIn profile so that it can be noticed by others and the recruiter should reach out to me.
Before we jump on to optimizing your LinkedIn profile, let’s check how your current profile is performing.
Step 1: Click on this link and check the current status.
Step 2: Check What your searchers do and Top keywords you were found for .
You should see something similar to the following image.

If your profile searchers are a high percentage of recruiters and you are found for the keywords that you are looking for, your profile is doing good and if you are receiving messages from recruiters, then you don’t need any changes on your profile.
But if you don’t see recruiters searching you for the right profiles that you are searching for then you just have to follow this article and see the magic.
Let’s start with the basics. Filling out these sections will help you be discovered by recruiters and people you may know.
1. Cover Photo:
A cover photo gives an idea about you and who you are, whenever someone lands on your profile they may get to know about you and your skills just by looking at your profile cover photo. Hence it is very important to have a good cover photo.
2. Profile Picture:
Having a good-looking profile picture makes it easier to identify you by the recruiters. Not that you should not upload any random photo that doesn’t look professional.
3. LinkedIn Headline:
You must include a headline that describes you or the skills that you have or anything that you can think can be sold in the market. It is very important to have a good headline as this gets very high attention when recruiters go through your profile. The recruiters get to know about you or even your skills as they are short and looked first.
Additionally, you can also add contact info, your personal blog website, and your current company and college name.

4. About:
Add detailed information about your skills, expertise, and your past experiences. You can also talk about your achievements and add some details about them. You may also add links to your other profiles eg. GitHub, Competitive programming profiles, your blog links, or even something that describes more about you.

5. Experience:
Add details about your current and past experiences. Make sure to include keywords that can highlight your skills and knowledge so that your profile can rank higher when the recruiters search for similar keywords.
Note that the more keywords you add to your profile higher the chances of ranking your profile when searched for the same keywords.
When you are adding your experience, you can also add skills that you learned at that job.

6. Education:
Add about your education, like college name, GPA, course curriculum, etc. This helps in improving your overall profile content and increases your chance of getting high recruiter messages.

7. Certifications:
You should list down all the certificates that you have attained/completed. Note that these certificates should be related to your domain, so that these can help recruiters to identify that you are the right candidate for the job that he/she is searching for.

8. Volunteering:
If you have done any volunteering for some NGO or Government, make sure you include them in this section. Even though it’s not so important to add it to your profile but having it makes your profile look better and shows your social contributions.

9. Skills:
This section is very important as what skills you are going to add to this section will improve your profile ranking and will increase the reach of your profile whenever someone tries to search with these keywords.

10. Recommendations:
Ask for feedback and recommendations from your colleagues about the work that you have done with or under them. This helps in recognizing your contributions to your present and past experiences.

11. Publications:
If you have published any paper in any journal or you do some content creation on the web, you may include these details. This gives a better look at your profile and tells about the other work that you do.

12. Patents:
You can also include any patent that you or your company has filed on your behalf. It shows your innovative skills and adds extra value to your profile.

13. Courses:
Add all the courses that you may have taken while doing your graduation or any online course that you learned at your job.
