Brokenness: Don’t Know What to Say? It’s Okay!
Your friend is hurting. What do you say?

I’ve asked myself this question and know the ANXIETY, the FRUSTRATION, and the HELPLESS FEELING when you don’t know what to say or what to do. When you know you can’t empathize, you still desperately want to say SOMETHING, do ANYTHING to comfort your friend.
Know what? It’s Okay! It’s okay if you don’t know what to say. It’s okay if you don’t understand what I’m going through. Why? Because I know you care!
Backstory… Recently, I was talking with a friend about a difficult situation my family was going through. My friend felt bad because he didn’t know what to say to take my pain away. I told him it’s okay. I know you don’t understand but I do know you care.
There’s a simple quote by Aesop that speaks well to this.
No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.
Be There even if you don’t say anything. Be There even if you don’t understand. Because YOU being there is ALL your friend needs right now.
Daily Doable: Can you sit quietly? Can you listen? Can you be there for someone else even if you don’t understand what they are going through? Yes!
You CAN do all of that and MORE without saying a word.
If you enjoyed this Inspire Point, I would like to invite you to read a story about some special ladies and what they did to comfort me.
This Inspire Point and Daily Doable were brought to you by Tim Maudlin. Please allow me to introduce myself.
