Summary

The provided content is a "choose your own" adventure story titled "Breaking the Ice," part of the DRABBLE STORY ARC #2: SEEK AND AVENGE, where the protagonist is faced with a decision on how to interact with new companions regarding personal motivations and the quest to clear an orc camp.

Abstract

"Breaking the Ice" is the second installment in a drabble story series where readers make choices that influence the narrative. The story follows a character named Naya, who is accompanied by Polki, a talkative goblin, and Tox’ar, an axe-wielding companion. As they navigate a settlement, Polki inquires about Naya's name and the reasons behind her quest to eliminate an orc camp. Naya's response is interrupted by Tox’ar, who questions the relevance of Polki's inquiries. The narrative presents the reader with three choices: to answer Polki's questions immediately, to postpone the answers until after a visit to the market for gear, or to maintain that the party's dynamic is strictly business and no personal information will be shared. The story encourages reader engagement and invites them to contribute to the ongoing narrative. It also provides links to previous chapters, contribution guidelines, and ways to support the author, John Fanidis, who writes under Studio VN21 on Medium.

DRABBLE STORY ARC #2: SEEK AND AVENGE

Breaking the Ice

A chapter of a ‘choose your own’ story — drabble edition.

This is a continuation of The Burned Village, a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition,” initially created by JF Danskin. Head back to the previous chapter or learn how to contribute to the ongoing story here.

As you walk down the settlement streets with your new ‘friends,’ Polki takes the initiative to try and break the uncomfortable silence.

“Soo, you just told us what you want and what you give out of this whole ‘orc-invasion’ situation. But you never told us your name. Or why do you want to clear this orc camp? Is it personal? Is it business? Is it for fun? Is it — ”

“Silence, goblin,” Naya intervenes, “you talk too much.”

“Why, sorceress? I mean, the goblin raises a few good points here,” Tox’ar answers while polishing his great axe with care.
