Bombed by a Hummingbird!

Small Birds… Big Surprises

Hello friends! You may have probably read about my connection with hummingbirds and how dozens of them visit my garden every day. In case you are curious about it, I’m leaving the link at the end of this story.

Today I’m here to tell you what happened last week! I even sent a picture to a friend about it (I’m not going to share it here… you’ll soon understand why!).

It was just another Tuesday morning, I came home after taking my daughter to school. The sky was full of gloomy clouds that looked ready to rain. But I didn’t pay attention as I went to feed Baloo, my eager husky dog, in the backyard. As soon as I put food in his bowl, I heard the familiar buzz of hummingbird wings zooming around the feeders I had put up for the tiny birds.

I watched the hummingbirds quickly flutter from flower to flower. I could tell they were super hungry even though I made sure to always keep their nectar feeders full. Worried air bubbles were stopping them from drinking properly, I decided to gently shake the feeders.

Well, those hummingbirds did NOT like me messing with their food!

They started loudly squeaking their annoyance. A whole flock of angry hummingbirds gathered to dive at my head as I tried to fix their feeders.

“Ok, ok!” I yelled, putting my hands up to surrender. But the furious little birds were not done with me yet. Just as I stepped back, I felt something wet drop onto my head.

I quickly turned around to see if rain had suddenly started falling. But instead, I spotted one naughty hummingbird zooming away after flying straight over me.

No rain… but yes, bird poop! A teeny hummingbird had pooped on my head! What were the chances? I couldn’t believe I got bombed by a tiny bird and its stinky ammunition!

As I stood there in shock, Baloo curiously tried to sniff at the white mess now dripping from my hair, I could see that internally, he was laughing at me! I was so nice to the hummingbirds, making sure they always had yummy nectar. And this was the thanks I got?!

I had to laugh at how silly it was as I went inside to wash the hummingbird poop out of my hair. Maybe next time I’ll think twice before messing with those tiny fury machines and their precious nectar feeders! But I still can’t believe such a little bird managed to unleash its poop on me — talk about bad luck! or was I just in the wrong place at the wrong time? Who would’ve thought I’d ever get pooped on by a teeny hummingbird? Not me!
