Blue Skies Turned Gray

A day to remember

The color changed from blue to gray Once a pristine sky on a perfect day Wispy clouds were quickly replaced by their pillow-shaped counterparts They took over, shunning the sun away

I am used to the rain It can last a few minutes, hours, and days A thunderstorm, a quick drizzle, or downpour A refreshing scent that tickles the insides of my nostrils It takes me back to summer days

On this day, the wind rose with such intensity It sounded like the rotor blades hitting the air near me Hail hit a large glass window with a loud slap Darkness swooped in like a dark angel of the night

Within seconds the wind began to roar I heard the sound of a siren What was that? I’ve never heard it before Tornado alert yelled my phone with each buzz

We hurried down the stairs Spending the next few hours in a bank vault A tighter space than expected Surrounded by safety deposit boxes and other valuable resources Listening intently to the radio No power or service to use our phones

We waited till it was over I am glad we all survived My first experience with a tornado Thankfully, this was the only time

I had never experienced a tornado before that day. It was scary. I can still hear the wind and the sound of the hail as it hit the glass window. I was thankful to be working in an office above the bank. It’s an experience I do not want a repeat of.
