WRITING PROMPT

“Blue Insights Cultural Prompts — September 2020”

“C H A N G E” - Our reasons for being optimistic despite of everything

Based on the word change, you are invited to write a text that takes the reader anywhere — here or there, to hope or to despair, to joy or disappointment, to growth or vice versa.

  • As a reader, I would prefer the positive outcome — a text that shows the place of change and the positive opportunities in human life.
  • What does not seem possible can become possible, and the impossible can become almost possible.
  • In everything there are opportunities. Write and show that opportunities exist, not just limitations.

Your writing task is to make all this visible to the reader. Show how things can be done, how things can be changed, can arise in a new costume: a locked life situation, a marriage, a relationship, a group situation, a dramatic event …

The task in this writing challenge is to show the reader that

- what seems impossible can be possible

- the fixed can change

- the locked can be unlocked, and

your purpose as a human being, as a writer is to help to show the reader this.

Change and accept

“Floods will rob us of one thing, fire of another. These are conditions of our existence which we cannot change. What we can do is adopt a noble spirit, such a spirit as befits a good person, so that we may bear up bravely under all that fortune sends us and bring our wills into tune with nature’s.” - Seneca

What does change mean to humans?

— Hope?

— Frustration?

— Optimism?

— Possibilities?

— Growth?

— Despair?

Writing challenge

A minimum of 99 words, including a captivating heading and a visual illustration, a picture, a drawing or similar.

Thought Food

Here are some change quotes for you:

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” ― Rob Siltanen

“Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn’t stop for anybody.” ― Stephen Chbosky

“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” ― Leo Tolstoy

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” ― Margaret Mead

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ― Nelson Mandela

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.” ― Terry Pratchett

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” ― Albert Einstein

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” ― Rumi

“It’s only after you’ve stepped outside your comfort zone that you begin to change, grow, and transform.” ― Roy T. Bennett

“Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change.” ― Mary Shelley

versus

manipulation, falsehood and lies?

Areas of change:

- refugees
