Blanket of Emotion

dare to unwrap it

Photo by Jon Tyson on Unsplash

Anger is the blanket emotion. Anger is easy to engage, satisfying. Anger has a secret that it does not want to share. Anger likes you wrapped up, falsely secured in a tenuous comfort, restricted in your ability to find the truth.

Anger is your blanket that hides fear, or covers doubt, or warms loneliness.

Dare to lift this tattered thin blanket that covers your eyes, hangs from your shoulders in the fabrication of utility. Dare to reveal and meet what lies beneath outbursts, tears, confusion and misunderstanding.

Anger may get the attention you crave, the release that dupes you into thinking you have control. The heat you feel under that blanket is not healing. The heat you feel is genuine emotion not addressed, crying to be known.

Throw off the mantle of anger and seek what you must truly meet. Emotion, in all their perplexing, powerful, painful, honest need.

In our workshops in Non-Violent Communication, we learn the value of recognizing our genuine emotions and needs and then learn to meet them in healthy ways. Anger truly is a blanket we can hide under rather than do the work. Feel anger, but dig deeper to find the real need unmet and cherish the emotion that means you're alive.

Welcome new followers! Reading your work is always a balm to meet the need for creativity, knowledge, and whimsy. Charlie O'Brien, Ilana Quinn, Trista Signe Ainsworth, Taylor Hudson, Magnolia
