Black Lives Still Matter!

Why black people will never let the movement die

In the Summer of 2020, the world united and joined in protest against racial injustice against black people and other minorities. The Black Lives Matter movement was in full force and at the time, there were very few critics.

Fast forward a few months, and you saw that many of those who stood arm in arm with us, voicing their displeasure of police brutality after the George Floyd murder, were now critics of Black Lives Matter.

Some of the protests turned violent and I suppose that turned people off to what the cause was for.

Now of course there were crises actors infiltrated in these protests to stir up trouble. That’s been happening at protests in this country for decades.

According to the Star Tribune, one of the men caught breaking into a building during the protests was a white supremacist.

To some of yall, The Black Lives Matter protests of 2020 were a fun time where everybody got to play “pretend” and march for a couple of hours. For black people, it was the impetus to something much larger.

We live this struggle daily and for us, the movement is to let it be known that black lives have not mattered to everyone else, and we are not going to let up until changes are made.

So for all of you “All Lives Matters” folks, you’re completely missing the point. We are telling you that since the inception of this country, black people have not mattered and we won’t stand for it any longer.

You can say “All Lives Matter” as much as you want, but the United States has shown favoritism to the “other” groups of people, time and time again.

There are also critics, mostly leaning right on the political spectrum that will tell you Black Lives Matter is a Marxist group, that does nothing for the black community, and profits off of the name.

Well, let me tell you that black people don’t give a damn about the organization. It’s about the movement. But you already knew that.

I can’t speak for the others who participated in the Black Lives Matter protests, but for black people, we weren’t doing it for any organization. This is about our lives truly having some meaning for a change.

Take it however you want, but for all of those spewing political talking points, I bet they never asked one black person what they were marching for.

“The only weapon that we have in our hands this evening is the weapon of protest. That’s all.”

- Martin Luther King Jr.

Anyways, politics aside, black people are no longer sitting on the sidelines wishing change would come. We are demanding change and will let you know whether you want to hear it or not.

So you have a choice, either you’re with us, or you’re standing in our way. We demand equal rights and nothing less! There’s plenty of room to get on board the social justice train, but you can’t be scared to use your voice!
