Big Might Be Strong, Small Can Be Resilient
As crazy as it sounds, the biggest life lesson is about perspective.

We tend to think Big is better. A bigger house is better, and a bigger car is better. Hey, we pay a higher monthly mortgage on a bigger house. There is also a higher monthly loan repayment for that luxurious sedan.
The disadvantage of the big stuff is rooted in modern finance.
And this is not just about finance. Nature delivers such lessons as well. Have you ever given much thought to trees and weeds?
Trees are visible, tall, and immovable. We sway with the breeze and dance with the wind. If you have been into a national park during a breezy day, you will appreciate the melody of nature when the wind brushes past the tree branches and leaves.
As strong as they are, they are weak. You might think that I am nuts when I say this, but it is true. Strength is relative.
They appear strong on a normal day with blue skies and puffy white clouds. They are extremely fragile during a hurricane.
When a hurricane pops by for a visit, almost all trees get uprooted. Well, the strong gets destroyed first. This is similar to the plight of the wealthy in a wealth divide. As the country gets poorer, governments will try to squeeze more monetary juice from the Financial Haves.
Back to Mother Nature.
Measured against a natural calamity, weeds are stronger than trees.
Hurricanes come along and take the trees along with them as if trees are their war-time victory proceeds. Did you notice that the weeds along the path remain where they are in the aftermath of a disaster?
They are truly immovable.
And they prove their mettle during our day-to-day. Sure, they are a nuisance because we can never eradicate them from our backyard. A sea of green returns to a patch of yellow and green in days.
And weeds display unbelievable fortitude when it comes to survival.
We can step on them, trample on them time after time, uproot them only to see them popping out like wildflowers again. They are like cockroaches in the world of plants.
There is so much we can learn from them. My biggest takeaway is that small can be incredibly resilient and flexible. Look at anyone around us who is hungry for success, and we will notice the weed-factor in them.
They might lose a battle today (failing an examination, etc.), and they keep going. They do not concede defeat. Failures are puzzles in life where gems are found if we manage to solve them.
And have you seen a muscular guy heading to the physiological clinic for physical maintenance? Oddly enough, they tend to (not all, but mostly) make the loudest noise.
Strength and size do not have to hand in hand. The key determinant to mental strength is our resilience when curveballs are thrown in our direction.
When we can take and absorb hits, we get stronger. Do not mistake bruises for weakness. On the contrary, they are the hallmark of resilience and potential success.
And … Small withstands the test of time.
