Biden Admin Declares 500+ New Sanctions vs Russia
President Joe Biden declared on Friday that D.C. would make more than 500 new sanctions on the 2nd anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war.
The Biden Administration declared more than 500 sanctions against Russia to mark the 2nd anniversary of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The United States issued these sanctions to put more pressure on Moscow and push Putin to end the war.
These sanctions targeted the Russian Mir card payment system, many Russian financial institutions, energy production, and various other areas. Joe Biden hopes this decision will hold Russia accountable for the war and the death of Alexei Navalny.
Washington wants to continue providing support to Ukraine as it suffers through shortages of ammunition.
U.S. President Joe Biden made the following statement about the sanctions:
“They will ensure Putin pays an even steeper price for his aggression abroad and repression at home.”
In addition to the 500 sanctions that the United States issued against Russia, the United Kingdom issued its own package of sanctions against Russia in the same effort to stop the war in Ukraine.
Lastly, the European Union approved their 13th package of sanctions against Russia banning almost 200 entities and individuals who helped Russia in the war against Ukraine.
