Benefits Of Creating a Library of Your Medium Articles

In July 2021, Medium introduced the Lists function where a registered Medium user can create private or public lists of Medium article titles. I began writing and reading on Medium in November 2018, and I know that this was on a lot of people’s wish-list.
Private lists are handy and quick to create if you want private lists of stories in particular categories, even lists of stories you have written yourself each month. However, these lists are arranged in single file — as lists.
Public lists may be less useful. I really don’t know how many readers look at people’s public lists on Medium. You can’t be assured that anyone or many will be interested in your public lists, particularly when they are arranged in a single file.
To increase interest in a public list of your own stories, you can tile out the story titles in an aesthetic grid, creating your own Medium publication as a “library” of your stories. You can see this in action by clicking on the link below!
Benefits
- Your monthly story lists are tiled out in a pleasing grid array or formation, rather than appearing in a single overall list. If you like having your story titles gridded out rather than being simply listed, a “library” Publication is the way to go.
- If you use Medium’s “List” function to group your monthly stories, to get to the older lists as time passes, you will have to scroll down your lists home page. However, if you make your “library” of stories public, it’s easier for readers to access your stories.
- Your library is a valuable resource for you as a writer on Medium. You will be able to re-visit any month to refresh yourself about what you wrote and do any analysis that calls to you. At a glance, you will see how many stories you wrote in a month and will be able to navigate to any story to read it and/or to look at the stats.
- Your library publication can have up to seven pages with page names (tabs) at the top for seven different story/article categories, PLUS one page to an external web page. Thus, your readers and you can easily navigate to one of the seven categories of stories. For my library, my seven pages have a static list of stories, and my pinned story advises that more stories in these categories may be found in the articles of my monthly published stories.
- If you can attract followers to your Publication, it can be a “one-stop shop” cum library for devoted followers to look for and read your stories.
- With a Medium publication comes stats for the pub! This comes in handy so you can browse how many views and reads there are of each of your monthly articles. These stats may take on a pattern and will show you if anyone is viewing your monthly articles.

In the case of “Celine’s Creations,” while there are only a few followers, the main purpose of this publication is for my own use.
In summary, I created a library of my own articles on Medium to honour my own writing and to provide a pleasing repository of my articles for readers and myself. If you would like help with setting up your own library, please leave a comment or drop me a nice private note.
