About My Creations

Welcome to my Library of wonderful creations!
Having joined Medium in November 2018 I now have hundreds of stories and wanted to put them in a collection where they can be easily accessed.
So I created “Creations” to showcase my favourite stories in different categories.
Now that Medium includes excerpts from stories on one’s Profile pages (so that the reader or person browsing can “dive right in” according to Medium’s words) only a few of my Story Titles appear on my Profile page.
As I like to write long-form, these few stories take up one screen, meaning the reader has to keep scrolling down a single-file linear list, to find what she wants.
I preferred my stories being on my Profile page with images only and with no text extract, as a lot more titles were then on my page. Then I got to thinking:
“Can we feature our own stories in a visual display, so that viewers can easily find particular stories, without using Medium’s search function and especially without having to “drill down” the profile page?”
The answer is in the Publication, “Creations”. I love to do technical writing, as much as writing in other genres. Because I am generous with my efforts and I love to help others, my articles about working successfully with Medium have been shared with Medium members on Medium.
I began my stay with Medium, writing self-help / personal development / “advice” type stories; and since then have had poems, short stories, and works in other categories, published.
How to navigate
Across the top there are 7 pages. Each page covers 1 or 2 categories, so when you click on that page (or tab) you will then see a list of my favourite stories up until 9 July 2021. The story titles alongside their main images appear.
As a maximum of 7 pages only can be set up, some pages include 2 categories.
If you follow this idea, please note that for stories that you wrote, which are in another Publication, you should not remove them from that Publication and then add them to your Library Publication!
Instead you have to provide the links, as I have, which when you press the Return key on your keyboard, will become “embedded”, meaning a block with the story’s main image appears on the right of the title.
Note: I found that sometimes you just have to be patient and press return about 10 times for the embedding to work. (They say that “patience is a virtue” and I agree, along with my belief that “appreciation and faith are virtues”.)
In my Publication, the pages will be static, I think. This means that I won’t be adding to them. They will be story lists for readers who are new to Medium to easily browse through, to find a “goodie” to read.
They will also be a treasury (hopefully) of story lists for those who have already read some of my stories, to re-visit a story. The static pages and the supporting stories published by me, from 9 July 2021, will enable my Followers to easily find and read an article that has inspired or helped them.
Ongoing stories
My idea is to create a new story at the beginning of each month with links to the stories that I have published that month, if any.
Life is full of potential, and writers are very creative.
This is my founding of a personal library of stories on Medium.
Also, I don’t like the new look Publication layouts with stories in single-file, which are suitable for mobile phones. Hey, not every one in the world uses a mobile phone with a large screen.
Also, I think that the linear display assumes that readers are devoted to a particular Publication, eagerly looking at it every day for something to read. They don’t need to scroll down if they are viewing the Publication every day. Yeah, right.
The layout that I used when I first joined Medium in November 2018 lets the Publication owner set out or lay out her or his content in pleasing and visual ways, under certain criteria or factors, like hand-picked i.e. Featured stories, or top viewed stories, i.e. Trending stories.
Thank you for reading this, and I hope that my offerings are useful to some people.
