PLAY OF CONSCIOUSNESS
Belief: A Filter of Consciousness [4]
We Need Belief — Civilization Won’t Survive Without It
Four Pillars of Human Foundations
Belief, projections/creativity, free will, and intellect are parts of the backbone of the 3D human experience. Considering reincarnation/past lives or memories of past lives the draw for spirit bodies to return to Earth in massive numbers is one of the greatest opportunities for growth, evolution, and ascension. Before explaining how that is possible let us on a journey through:
4. Belief… (one of the 4 Pillars) [4] 5. Connection — Projections (one of the 4 Pillars in 2 parts) [5a & b] 6. Earth as a Conscious Being [6] 7. Beyond Intellect (one of the 4 Pillars) [7]
Numbers 4, 5, & 6 are the backbone of humanity’s greatest downfall and achievement simultaneously. These four stories are about identifying the salient challenges. (Of course, there are many more filters than just these four.)
Then there’s…
8. Free Will / Creativity (one of the 4 Pillars) [8] 9. The Purpose of Humanity [9] 10. Time and the Evolution of Consciousness [10]
Number 8 is the context for humanity to work through the problem and discover its purpose individually and as a whole in #9. In #10 is the pathway to higher consciousness as energy/light for ascension.
[Note — the order of the articles has changed. Numbers 6 and 8 and swapped positions formerly #8 was Earth as a Conscious Being and #6 was Free Will Creativity. Too much of the heady stuff makes me dizzy, thus the break…]
For now, it’s belief and consciousness…
I trust you will enjoy the adventure!
What is Belief?
The origin/entomology of the noun belief comes from the late 12century. It has roots in Old English, Old Saxon, Middle Dutch, and Old High German.
The be-, which is not a natural prefix of nouns, was prefixed on the analogy of the vb. (where it is naturally an intensive) …. Old English Dictionary
The meaning “conviction of the truth of a proposition or alleged fact without knowledge” is by the 1530s; it is also “sometimes used to include the absolute conviction or certainty which accompanies knowledge”
From the Online Etymological Dictionary
Belief is a formal and widely accepted form of assumption. Assumptions are with or without evidence or supporting knowledge. My immediate belief association is “the belief in God”. This is an unshakable assumption that may correlate to a spiritual awakening. Or we learn a belief in God through religion and the values of family traditions.
The purpose of this story is to examine the beliefs that based on data or knowledge.
Beliefs are Shorthand Managerial Tools for Daily Life
For many years I believed that I would sleep through the night and wake in my bed in the morning. This began as an assumption. I have evidence to back it up. I fell sound asleep when I was in secondary school and slept “like a log”. There were periodic nightmares where I’d awaken, see that I was safe in my bed, and fall immediately back to sleep. At age 70 that changed and sleeping through the entire night became a problem. My belief fell in the garbage.
We have many beliefs that are seamless. We assume many behaviors begin as automatic biological functions. We notice them when they fail us. We could call these assumptions beliefs of our bodies.
After my ego develops I began a belief in myself. I gain confidence. Belief in myself grows. The belief incorporates into my ego/self. I forget that I have the belief. Since it is part of me there is no need to remember it. Other factors of my life need my attention. Thus constant testing of my belief in myself becomes automatic. Automatic beliefs can go to self-aggrandizement. It can lead to narcissistic personality traits or full-blown narcissism.
When belief in myself tested by tragedy, for example, something must change. Then I must do something about that else wise fall into a depression etc….
I believe˚: I will always love my partner. I will always be loved by my partner. I will always love my children and they will love me. in America and the American dream. that the USA is a Christian Nation. in gun control. that my meditative practice will save the world. in a woman’s right to control her body. in my spiritual practice. in the Light/Universal Love. in consciousness / the Light / Love.
˚this list of beliefs covers a variety of beliefs. It does not represent all the views of this author.
The Best Known Group Testing Beliefs
The scientific method is an evolving set of principles to approximate truths. The method is not about proof per se. It is acquiring knowledge by:

Once this process completes itself one time, a paper is published. Other scientists (peers) either verify or deny the results based on the validity of the process. Experiments are undertaken to replicate the original experiment. If the results are the same peers take this as a step forward in expanding the knowledge base. If scientists become attached to the result a belief forms. Belief creates attachment. Newtonian Physics was the accepted belief/norm for generations. Quantum Physics threw part of the previous theory into question.
There is only one spiritual discipline that modifies the scientific method. It’s aim is a merciless study of human being. Perfecting the human and mastery are the ultimate aims. That discipline is the Gurdjieff Work.
Belief in Consciousness
All other beliefs save a belief in consciousness and have a few things in common. Belief takes an assumption, gives it value, and allows us to project what we want or wish into a future. This future is often called “the future” as if there is only one of them. The projection aspect of belief is a fiction. It stops thought. But we need projection to have hope. Hope, by itself, is another fiction. This is a good thing. Civilization would grind to a halt if we had to think about each belief. We would get stuck examining the truth in every motion.
Yet, an unexamined belief may be standing in the way of the light of truth. The key is finding a balance in examining the major beliefs we hold. When I am merciless with seeing truths of major beliefs, new worlds open. Long-held minor beliefs may not need questioning. This kind of inquiry is an investigation into a belief in consciousness.
Consciousness is ever-expanding. It belongs to mystery yet we can touch it with attention and awareness. When I have developed Being — then being holds Light which is consciousness. The process of creation is consciousness which is light and love. In other words, consciousness is all and everything. Belief in consciousness requires mind/body/emotional ongoing inquiry. It can accelerate our expansion into higher states or levels of consciousness.
Being teases me to explore finite beliefs and infinite beliefs (a topic for another time).
