How much effort I put to made 1 $ on Medium just in 5 days

Everybody on medium either want to join Medium Partner Program (MPP) or want to know how much money they can get or both. Understanding MPP earning is really complex to digest because it may rely on various factors. In this blog, I will share the calculation and the data which generated 1 USD (1.29 $ to be exact) for me. In this blog, you will get information regarding:

My MPP Background: I joined MPP just one week ago. I was also curious about how much money I could generate with MPP. So, I was paying close attention to my paywall. I have been on the medium for 2 years and struggled to enrol with MPP. On 2nd Jan, I joined the MPP, and since then, I have kept tracking my activities on medium and earning with it. MPP algorithm to generate money: MPP calculation for earning is a bit complex to understand because it depends not only on the quality of your blogs but also on the number of authors and their posts in your area. Officially, you may see the following criteria publish by medium to give you an idea about earning calculation:

So the first point has two things: a) Member reading times, b) Non-member reading time (only if they join medium within 30 days of reading your story), which is hard to forecast and calculate but has a fair chance to happen. And the second point is hard to digest solitarily because it depends not on your story but on how many portions you can grab from the reader’s total reading time.

For instance, if you publish a story about ‘Futurism’ and there are only four more authors who write about ‘Futurism’ and your reader Mr. X1 spends 100 Min read a total on reading blogs published by all five writers (including you) till the end of the month and his membership fee is100 USD.

Mr. X1 spent 10 Min on your story, which is 10% of his total read time, so you will get 10% of his 100 USD membership fee. Now, easy, isn’t it? However, not only Mr. X1 is on the planet, but Mr. X2, X3, … Xn, too. So you will some portion of the membership fee paid by all Mr. Xs.

So, in this calculation, we will not include these two points: Point 1-b, and Point-2. Because, these are unpredictable or can be count only end of the month.

In this blog, we will only figure it out how Point 1-a effected the earning so far which includes three factors of each blogs:

i) Views, ii) Read, iii) Claps.

I have two type of blogs: first, which was posted before joining the MPP, and another after enrolling with MPP.

My statistics (before joining the MPP): As already mentioned , I am on medium since 2020. And, I posted following seven blogs which has decent views, and read. Also, some of them published in good publications:

My efforts (after joining the MPP): After joining, I posted only two blogs which manage to give me 1 USD just in 5 days and that are following:

One of them is just day before. So, now you can easy digest the earning from these blogs.

Earning from old blogs: After joining MPP, I put all my blogs behind a paywall, but only some paid well. Because medium circulate your recently published blogs in the digest at once. And this is the day when you will do the highest reading on your blog (nonetheless, your blog got viral, and people got mad about it and read increased dramatically).

Views, Reads, Claps on new and old blogs:

So as you can see, total number of views after 2nd Jan (joining date of MPP) are: 2/Jan: 55 views 3/Jan: 77 views 4/Jan: 92 views 5/Jan: 126 views 6/Jan: 109 views 7/Jan: 103 views 8/Jan: 187 views

However, to know the daily earning we need time spend on my stories rather than number of reads on it. So let’s see daily reading time and the earning on blogs after getting enrol with MPP.

The daily calculation: The earning from my old blogs are very nominal so far so here I am only showing you earning from my new blogs:

I got invitation to submit one of my old blog to a publication and I did. After that, it started performing well than my other blogs. Therefore, I would like to mention earning from that blog too:

These were the three main blog which are contributing to made me 1 USD.

Conclusion: It takes 48 hrs. to generate earning on your current statistics. And, it is started appearing at my wall after 48 Hrs. I joined. So, my daily earning was:

04/Jan it was = 0.07 USD 05/Jan it was = 0.11 USD 06/Jan it was = 0.65 USD 07/Jan it was = 0.87 USD 08/Jan it is = 1.29 USD
