Each of us dreams about the better future ahead. No one likes to have an average dream, do we? But for some reason, we tend to neglect our today. This process of dreaming about tomorrow is repeated so many times in our lives that it becomes our second nature.

Most of us actually do very little today to change our future. What that leads to is that when tomorrow comes, we start thinking about the next tomorrow and then the next. It goes on. Until one fine morning at the age of 40 or 50, we tell our kids to study hard and pursue their dreams because we couldn’t.

Life passes by. There is nothing wrong to live an average life. But it is wrong to not live your life for even a single moment the way you dreamt you would 20 years ago.

Every successful person who has achieved what they wanted to, first conquered their minds. Yes, you need to conquer it. Don’t let it flow as it wishes. Because our mind likes to keep us in the comfort zone. If any tough situation comes, our mind rings the alarm bell and we tend to run away.

We need to conquer our minds to stop procrastination. There is a difference between dreaming and procrastinating.

I read this amazing story of Mitch Horowitz — “Why the Best Spiritual Practice Is the One You Invent Yourself”. He explains how at the age of 40 he decided to pursue a career in writing and he did achieve what he wanted to.

I was past 40. I swore from the top of that tower that I would establish myself as a known writer. I asked all the forces available to me on that frigid winter day, seen and unseen, physical and extraphysical, to come to my aid.

The best way to control your mind is to understand your subconscious. For me, mindfulness practices such as meditation have helped me significantly to have an understanding of my subconscious and hence have control over my mind.

I have been meditating for 10 minutes a day for the last year or so. Imagine, 10 minutes for every 1440 (24 x 60) minutes have given me such benefits. How powerful the minds of the monks are!

Think about someone who wants to be the world’s best story-teller. How do you think he can achieve that feat? Public speaking is one of the best ways that people do. Public speaking brings credibility to the speaker and also brings that human connection between the speaker and his/her audience.

But, we all know how horrifying that experience can be for us. Public speaking is the most feared activity known to mankind. So how can that story-teller achieve what he/she aspires for? Certainly talking once or twice a year won’t do the job.

He/she has to regularly connect with his/her audience live. The fear is in our minds. There is no such threat but only our thoughts about what would someone think if we mess up?
