Let’s grow this publication!

When I started this publication in October 2020, I was still figuring out how to use Medium, what my goals were, and had no idea what this would turn into. After a few months of learning the Medium ways, following and analyzing the ways of other publications, I’ve made the decision to open this pub up for other writers.

One of my goals of this publication from the start was to inspire others and help to educate people, whether they’re in the Cybersecurity industry or not.

I’m constantly preaching about how we security professionals need to share our knowledge to help close the skills gap and attract new talent to the industry. What better way to do that than provide a platform for exactly that?

I am one person with one role in an industry with roughly 2.8 million professionals across the world. There are so many more people out there with their own security knowledge and stories to tell. So this is my official call for content.

Do you write about security topics? Or maybe experiences you’ve had in the industry, attacks you’ve defended against or performed (ethically of course)? This is the place for those stories!

Dark Roast’s Mission

The goal of this publication is to inspire, educate, and share ideas about InfoSec. Dark Roast Security is a platform designed to bring people together that are passionate about sharing their knowledge or want to learn something new about Cybersecurity.

Through this publication, I hope to share experiences of Cybersecurity professionals across the industry, spread knowledge, and publish thought-provoking content for our readers.

Guidelines

My only rule for this publication is that each story submitted teaches our readers something. Whether it be an informational article about a security topic or a deep dive into a particular vulnerability or cyberattack.

Additionally, this is a professional security publication so only informational, professional content will be published. Please be sure to proofread your work for grammatical errors and refrain from swearing as poorly written or unprofessional content will be rejected.

How to Become a Writer

1. Email me at [email protected] and include your Medium username
2. You’ll be added as a writer within 3 business days
3. Once you’ve been added, all you have to do is click the “…” at the top of your draft and select Dark Roast Security from the publication list

Publication Sections

For Dark Side submissions:

• you must use the “Dark Side” tag
• the title must be formatted as “Dark Side XXX: Topic”, where XXX is the succeeding number of the latest Dark Side story (101,102,103…150, etc.) ex. Dark Side 108: Intro to Privilege Escalation

For Light Roast submissions:

• you must use the “Blue Team” tag
• the title must be formatted as “Light Roast XXX: Topic” where XXX is the succeeding number of the latest Light Roast story (101, 102, 103, etc.)

For Ethical Hacking use the “Ethical Hacking” tag.

For From the Experts use the “Storytelling” tag.

For Tips for Staying Secure use the “Tips” tag.

Submission Process

Once you’ve submitted your story, please allow up to three business days for me to review it.
