Be Open (More About Me) — RAINNA

Here’s another “About Me” story. I’m so fascinated to introduce myself twice here on my favourite platform. Introducing myself in high school was a nightmare. On the first day of class for four subjects in high school, I had to stand up in front of our class and introduce myself. Some teachers wanted to have a “fun game” introducing ourselves. One “fun game” I remember was thinking of a word starting with the letter of my name followed by my first name and which classes I have in the semester. Here’s what I said, “Hi, my name is Rabbit Rainna, I’m fifteen years old, and I’m taking Math, Science, and ESL Classes.”. It was the only word I could think of, and my classmates laughed. I took it to heart, and I didn’t want to show up anymore, but of course, I still showed up in class. I just brushed the embarrassment off because I needed to graduate from high school.
As an introverted person, it was difficult for me to stand right in front of twenty students I barely know. Plus, I’ve always wanted to sit in the front row to see the board, and I could hear the teacher. I have bad sight, and I wasn’t wearing eyeglass until I turned sixteen.
In writing, it is okay for me to introduce myself a couple of times since I’m hiding behind the screen.
Who am I?
My name is Rainna (It pronounce rey-na). Some people still call me “RIHANNA” (Ri-ya-na). My name in Spanish and Filipino means queen. I am twenty-three years old, and I live in Ontario, Canada.
I work at a fast-food restaurant as a full-time worker who just finished school and took Medical Laboratory Technician. I’m currently working full time, and I’m waiting for my placement in a few months.
I love writing since I was a child, as much as I love reading.
I write pretty much every day, and I have been writing since before I even learned to write a word. How’s that possible? When I was three to four years old, my mom taught me how to write my name. I remember having a lunch box with me, and I wanted to write my name on it because I didn't want anybody to steal the food or my whole lunch box. I didn’t know how I came up with that thought at a very young age.
I regret writing my name on the lunch box because I’ve seen this girl who has the same lunch box as me, and it looks clean and pretty while my lunch box looked dirty because it has my name written on it; not even good writing, and it was my handwriting. I would ask my mom to buy me papers and pencils for me to write my name. Even though I could only write my name on a piece of paper, I felt pretty happy when I was a kid.
When I learned to write and what to write, I became captivated with writing.
My mom’s typewriter
When I was six years old, we moved to Manila, Philippines, and I found my mom’s old typewriter. I was obsessed with it!
I liked to play alone because if I ever played with some kids, it would ruin everything, especially with my mom’s typewriter.
I remember playing by myself, and I imagined having my own office; I’d used my small bag my mom’s friend gave me and my mom’s typewriter on my small table. Then, I would make fake money out of white paper.
A few days later, my mom had to hide the typewriter somewhere because she didn't need it.
I turned eight, and then I saw the typewriter again. I got a lot of freedom to use it that time because my mom didn't need it and trusted me even more than I was six.
It didn’t have the typewriter ribbon or ink ribbon, so I came up with the idea of using crayons. I learned this in school, from art class, I forgot what it's called, but I coloured the whole white paper using crayons, whatever colour I wanted, I’d used that coloured paper as the ink. I know it may sound weird, but it worked! I cannot remember what I wrote using the typewriter.
Suddenly, I got tired of using the typewriter using colour paper as the ink. Somebody gave me a journal notebook as a gift on my ninth birthday. I wrote my short life story in that notebook. Since then, I have trusted pen and paper more than my friends.
Writing online
I started writing on Medium in the last week of February. I published two poems that I wrote years ago. Before I discovered Medium, I wrote for Thoughts Catalog and Elephant Journal. I stayed on Medium because I love the community, and I greatly appreciate every cent I get from writing.
I write about love, relationship, eco-friendly living, life lessons, and self-improvement. Pretty much, I write about my life and what I have learned in life. I believe that we all learn from each other and get inspired by each other’s experiences (This is why one of my publications was born).
I have two publications: Learning Moments and High-Value Women.
Hobbies
Besides reading and writing, I love hiking! I would hike with my family most of the time and even if it's winter. I recently went hiking with a friend, and it’s my first time going for a hike with a friend because I always hike with my family. Hiking has tons of benefits, such as lowering the risk of heart disease, and it’s good for blood circulation.
Other than that, I would work out for about 15 minutes. Then, I’d add kickboxing to my workout. I love boxing, and it’s a good core exercise.
Thank you!
I greatly appreciate you for taking the time to read my story. I look forward to getting to know everybody here. :)
I hope you’re having a fantastic day wherever you are in this world! ❤
