Be Gentler on Your Thoughts and Beliefs
A daily reminder to practice gentleness

If you were to give birth to a baby in this world, what kind of a life do you predict your child might live? Would you feel optimistic that he/she has a good chance to live a wonderful life, or would you feel fearful and worried that he/she would most likely struggle to survive instead?
The quality of your thoughts that arise from answering this hypothetical question shows how you view this world. This is how your child self sees the world. You already have a child within you, and that child is your inner child. He/She is the child in you who never grows up, loves to have fun, and yearns to feel loved and needed.
The way you think about this world you live in has a strong influence on how safe enough you feel to be gentle with others and yourself. Imagine feeling that you need to keep defending yourself and be ready to attack others on a daily basis. The harshness can come in the form of thinking these beliefs:
- I can’t afford to rest
- No pain, no gain
- I need to rise to the top, or I’ll get trampled all over by others
- I am inadequate
- I can’t trust anyone, not even myself
- I need to whip myself into shape
- I can’t afford to lose
- I need to prove I’m worthy
Which of these beliefs seem to be true for you? Which of these beliefs seem to be losing their hold on you? Can you let them go?
Now, I’d like you to think about how you can mother your inner child with more nurturing and gentler thoughts. What beliefs would you love to have about this world?
Here are some examples. I’d like to believe that:
- I have human and ethereal angels looking out for me and supporting me every step of the way
- The world is a global womb to help all of us learn and evolve at our divine timing
- All the people I’m connected with within this life were part of my previous lives. We are just playing the game of life a little differently each time.
- I continue to exist even after I die. My loved ones continue to exist even after they die.
- We are all lights learning to shine more brightly.
- When I get out of my own way, I shine.
- Most conflicts arise simply due to miscommunication. A deeper understanding of my relationships leads to more love and harmony.
When I form new beliefs or continue to affirm more positive beliefs, I start to notice new ‘evidence’ of them showing up in my life. For example, I have no doubt that I am indeed surrounded by angels who do support me consistently! Just thinking of this belief helps me to lower my defence, so I can dedicate more energies to contribute creatively back to this world. I don’t tire myself out trying to overthink everything.
Time for you to self-reflect and share
Thank you for reading my daily reminder. If you would like to participate in this exercise, do share with us in the comments:
- one harsh belief you are ready to let go of
- one gentle belief you are ready to notice it happening more in your world.
