Bait on Fishhooks, Diamonds in the Rough

A poem on fate, ideas, and originality

There are some thoughts that can’t manifest within fifty miles of another person One must kiss the voice, body heat, & benevolence of others goodbye before what jackets the near-barren mine of the lonesome mind may be unzipped

Desperate moths gravitate to desperate flames, those that crackle without a nearby ear to drum at its ‘pop’ tell luster-filled stories shunned to be heard only by the breeze for their lone embering away from snatchers so they can bask in the flame all by themselves

The fortunate find nothing in the mine, a life spent buried in the dirt, sifting through soot like it holds secrets

Those poor souls who find diamonds in the rough also find the pierced seat of a fishhook knotted to a surface outside our understandings

waiting for desire to seduce you through, to the clamping of your jaw

Alas, scrounge through the deepest depths — for nothing worth its weight in lead is found frolicking in the knee-deep.
