Week 1: Thank you, mum

Pages are full. Phrases incomplete. Poetry seems pretentious. Possibility of a chance to render thanks is overwhelming.

For giving birth to me and tolerating nine months of agony. For being patient and diligent in my upbringing. For teaching key lessons that helped me define my identity. For not tolerating my excuses of procrastination and laziness.

Instilling the love of knowledge. Igniting the curiosity about the unknown. Introducing the idea of simple living and high thinking. Inspiring me to do my best and take responsibility for my actions.

We had issues that had hurt both of us. We had expectations from each other that were never met. Yet, I tried to be a dutiful daughter. Whereas you upended your life to help me at a critical juncture.

Words cannot describe your beauty. Words can never explicate what you meant to me. If it makes any sense, you were the light of my darkness. You were the soul of my body.

Wherever you go, please don’t forget about me. Wherever you are, know that you are so greatly missed. Whenever we meet, I like to tell you again how special you are. Whenever I’m presented before the divine, I will express heartfelt thanks for making you, my mother.
