Hola!

My name is Vic Alcuaz, owner/editor of Ave Maria.

I am very happy to welcome you on-board. In order for you to understand why I started this publication, I would like to share our vision, mission and value statements from the onset:

Vision Statement — ‘To inspire Catholics to love being Catholics’

Mission Statement — ‘To provide our members the widest variety of Catholic reading materials 24/7’

Value Statement — ‘Love, physically and digitally’

We are now open for writers and editors for this publication. For your guidance, allow me to present the Ave Maria Writing Guidelines

  1. THE AVE MARIA PUBLICATIONS GRID — Below you will find a listing of possible subject matter you may write about. If you have something else in mind, do not hesitate to let me know at: [email protected] . Ave Maria, Fishers of Men will contain reading materials covering the 2000 years existence of the Catholic Church since the birth of Jesus Christ:

Jesus Christ, Evangelisation & Catechism, The Blessed Virgin, Holy Sacraments, The Papacy, Holy Rosary, The Vatican, Vatican II, Saints & Martyrs, Catholic Miracles, Church History, Catholic Schools & Universities, The Holy Bible, Catholics in North America, Priesthood, Catholics in South America, Nuns, Catholics in the European Union, Sunday Epistles, Catholics in the Middle East, Sunday Gospels, Catholics in the Asia Pacific Region, Prayer & Spirituality, Catholic Doctrine.

II. THE PROCESS OF WRITING SUBMISSIONS — (with thanks to Justin Cox of The Writing Cooperative. These guidelines are the most appropriate for Ave Maria. I made minimal revisions):

  1. Submissions must comply with Medium’s Rules, Ad-Free Policy, Content Guidelines, and Curation Guidelines. Stories violating Medium’s rules will be reported.

2. Submissions must be unpublished and locked. This ensures stories are published to gain the most exposure possible. Submissions must be original and unpublished anywhere previously. Stories may be republished to your personal blog, LinkedIn, or another publication outside of Medium only after being published by Ave Maria.. Stories published by accident may not be deleted and resubmitted. These are a violation of Medium’s rules on duplicate content.

Additionally, we require locked content. Placing stories behind Medium’s paywall ensures it is reviewed by Medium’s curators for broader distribution. Locked stories also bring the potential for writers to receive compensation through Medium’s Partner Program.

3. Submissions must be non-fiction except for poetry submissions.

4. Submissions must be appropriate for a wide audience. We reserve the right to reject content deemed offensive.

5. Submissions must be well organized and of high quality.

6. Submissions must not sell or promote a book, blog, service, tool, or any product. Honest product reviews that help our community make informed decisions are acceptable. However, ads or press releases are not.

Writers may promote their book, blog, service, tool, or other product with a short text link at the bottom of the story.

Stories may contain a maximum of three links using Medium’s embedded links (see the example of an embedded link at the bottom of this rule). Inline links related to the story’s content are acceptable. However, an overabundance of self-promotional links or anything that feels “spammy” is not.

Tagging other Medium members is only acceptable when the content is relevant. Stories overusing tags are rejected.

7. Submissions must be free of calls to action. A call to action (CTA) is something requesting the reader do something. Any request should be reasonable, short, and not capture user information directly within the story. A single text link inviting newsletter subscriptions is acceptable while embedding a sign-up form is not.

Any submissions requesting claps, slowly reading through to the end, or asking for payment of any kind (including linking to Venmo, Square Cash, etc.) are rejected. Additionally, keep social media follow requests to a minimum.

8. Submissions must be ready to publish. Stories must be written in fluent U.S. English, well organized, and free of spelling, grammatical, and language issues. Writers are expected to fully edit and vet all pieces before submitting them for publication.

Enjoy your writing!
