Photo-A-Day Challenge
Autumn Sunrises and Forest Walks
My week in photos

It has been some time since I’ve participated in this challenge — although I constantly take photos I just haven’t written about them. My week has seen some amazing sunrises as autumn arrives in all her splendour!

I’m lucky enough to live very close to the water — it’s unusual not to when you live on an archipelago! The harbour is a five-minute walk from home and a place I enjoy observing as the seasons change. On a still day, the ‘floating poles’ are always magical.

I happened to work at a different school this week, so my morning drive to work included two wonderful sunrises over the water. I usually ride my bike, and in a completely different direction, so it was lovely to have a change.

Being surrounded by water, it’s often difficult to tell if it’s the sea or a lake but this body of water is definitely fresh water. The whole area here is a water protection area. It’s surrounded by forest and is lovely to walk around.

Friday saw me out and about again, with blue skies and crisp air. The storm that ravaged the islands in January 2019 left much debris in its wake. The other trees cling to the cliff top on a thin layer of topsoil.

One of my favourite places here is the family cottage in the countryside. The clouds never fail to impress me, and the water — seawater — was pretty chilly! I did have a swim but after a very hot sauna. So refreshing!

Sunday’s wander through the town of Mariehamn over the thick autumn leaves was a relaxing way to finish the week. I’m lucky enough to live on this esplanade which stretches from one side of town to the other — about one kilometre. It’s lined with linden trees and is a delight in any season. My kitchen window looks out onto the trees.
Thanks for sharing my week in photos!
And as always, thank you to Dennett for this wonderful idea ~ sending love to you & Captain Argentina.
